1. Prayer
Before we start our class, let us pray. Miss Borinaga Yes, teacher. Dear God,
can you lead the prayer …..Amen.

Okay, are you done answering? Yes, teacher.

So, after answering the activity do you have any idea Yes, teacher. It is about our
about our topic for today? Solar System.

That’s right, our topic for today is all about our solar
system.

6. Unblocking of difficulties
What are the meaning of the following words?
a. Solar System Solar system is the gravitationally
bound system of the Sun and the
objects that orbit it, either directly
or indirectly.

b. Mercury
Mercury is the smallest planet in
our solar system and nearest to
the Sun, Mercury is only slightly
larger than Earth's Moon.

Venus is second planet from
c. Venus the Sun and sixth in the solar
system in size and mass.

d. Earth Earth is the third planet from

the Sun and the only
astronomical object known to
harbor life.
e. Mars
Mars is fourth planet in the solar
system in order of distance from
the Sun and seventh in size and
mass.

f. Moon Moon is the only location outside

of our planet that human beings
have personally visited and set
foot.

B. Presentation

These is the solar system. Solar system consists of Sun,

planets, comets, asteroids, and etc. We can find our solar system in
Where can we find our solar system? the galaxy/universe.

Solar System –  is the gravitationally bound system of the

Sun and the objects that orbit it, either directly or indirectly.
Of the objects that orbit the Sun directly, the largest are the
eight planets, with the remainder being smaller objects, the
dwarf planets and small Solar System bodies.

Planets in our Solar System

Mercury - The smallest planet in our solar system and

nearest to the Sun, Mercury is only slightly larger than Earth's
Moon. As such, it circles the sun faster than all the other
planets, which is why the Romans named it after their swift-
footed messenger god.
- is the second densest planet after Earth, with
a huge metallic core roughly 2,200 to 2,400
miles (3,600 to 3,800 kilometers) wide, or about
75% of the planet's diameter. In comparison,
Mercury's outer shell is only 300 to 400 miles
(500 to 600 km) thick.

Venus - second planet from the Sun and sixth in the solar

system in size and mass. No planet approaches closer to Earth
than Venus; at its nearest it is the closest large body to Earth
other than the Moon. Because Venus’s orbit is nearer the Sun
than Earth’s, the planet is always roughly in the same direction
in the sky as the Sun and can be seen only in the hours near
sunrise or sunset. When it is visible, it is the most brilliant
planet in the sky. Venus is designated by the symbol ♀.
- was one of the five planets—along with
Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn—known in
ancient times, and its motions were observed and
studied for centuries prior to the invention of
advanced astronomical instruments.

Earth - is the third planet from the Sun and the only
astronomical object known to harbor life.
- Its single most outstanding feature is that its
near-surface environments are the only places in
the universe known to harbour life. It is
designated by the symbol ♁. Earth’s name
in English, the international language
of astronomy, derives from Old English and
Germanic words for ground and earth, and it is
the only name for a planet of the solar
system that does not come from Greco-Roman
mythology.

Mars - fourth planet in the solar system in order of distance

from the Sun and seventh in size and mass. It is a
periodically conspicuous reddish object in the night sky. Mars
is designated by the symbol ♂.
- Sometimes called the Red Planet, Mars has long
been associated with warfare and slaughter. It is
named for the Roman god of war. As long as
3,000 years ago, Babylonian astronomer-
astrologers called the planet Nergal for their god
of death and pestilence. The planet’s two
moons, Phobos (Greek: “Fear”)
and Deimos (“Terror”), were named for two of
the sons of Ares and Aphrodite (the counterparts
of Mars and Venus, respectively, in Greek
mythology).

MOON - is the only location outside of our planet that

human beings have personally visited and set foot. Our
moon is the largest and brightest object in our sky, and it’s
thanks to the moon’s gravitational pull that causes Earth’s axis
to wobble that we have a fairly stable climate.

C. Practice
Class, Let’s answer some activities I prepared.

Answer the following questions.

1. What is the center of the solar system? 1. Sun
2. How many planets are there in our solar system? 2. 8 Planets (formerly 9
planets)
3. What planet is the closest to the sun?
3. Mercury is the closest
to the sun.
4. What planet that has ring on it or also called the 4. Saturn has a ring on it.
ring planet?
5. What other things that are present in our solar 5. Moon, Asteroids,
system? comets and other
heavenly bodies.

D. Exploring

Let’s go for another activity. Today’s activity will be by

group.
Each group consists of 5 members. In your group, you
are task to do a model that represent each planets that Okay, teacher.
will be assigned to you. You are going to present that in
front of the class.

Group 1
Mercury, Venus, Earth (sharing their group works)
Group 2
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (sharing their group works)

Group 3
Uranus, Neptune, Pluto (sharing their group works)

(sharing their ideas and presenting their group works)
