Teacher’ Activity Pupils Activity

A. Elicit Good morning class…..
I am Ms. Joanne May Esparas, your
teacher for this subject. Before
anything else let us pray first.
------Amen ---- Amen

Before you take your seats, please pick

up some pieces of paper under your
chair.
Thank You class!
Who is absent today class? None, ma'am
Okay, very good!
So how are you today class?
That's good to hear!
We are doing great ma'am
Now class, if you will do good in my
class today I will give you a star. So if
ever you've got many stars, I will give
you a reward right after our class.
Am I clear class? Yes ma’am!

Now class, who can tell me on how

many planets we have in our solar
system?
Ma’am! I think we have 8 planets in
Yes (name of student)? our solar system ma’am.
That’s correct! Very Good!
So class, is Earth a planet? Yes ma’am, it is!
That’s correct! Earth is one of the eight
planets in our solar system.

B. Engage Now class what do you see on the

picture?
Ma’am!

Yes, (name of student)?

So class, what do we call about these Planets ma’am!
first four planets?
Ma’am terrestrial ma’am!
Yes, (name of student)! Very good! So,
these first four planets are known as
the terrestrial planets.
How about these last four planets Ma’am! It’s the Jovian Planets
class? What do we call them? ma’am.
That’s correct! Very good. So, these
last four planets in our solar system
are also known as the Jovian planets
class.
Before we proceed to our discussion, I
want one volunteer from the class to
read the lesson objectives for today. Ma’am!
Yes, (name of student)
Objectives:
a. Identify what is a solar system;
b. Compare the eight planets (inner
& outer) of our solar system; and
c. Create a graphic organizer that
shows the eight planets of our solar
system.

Thank you, Yes ma’am!

Is our lesson objectives attainable
class?

That’s right! As long as you will

participate and listen attentively to our
discussion, then we can attain these
objectives.

C. Explore Now class, for 5 stars, who can tell me

on what is a solar system? Ma’am!

Yes, (name of student)? The Solar system is made up of the

sun and everything that orbits
around it, including planets, moons,
asteroids, comets and meteoroids.
That’s correct, for that you will receive
a 5 stars.

Now class, let us have a group activity.

But before that, I will divide you into
three groups.
In this activity, you are going to
identify and write the names of each Rubrics:
planet. You are only given 5 minutes to Cooperation-10 pts.
accomplish this task. But before you Time bound-5 pts.
start, I will read first the rubrics for this Correctness- 15 pts.
activity Total: 30 pts

You may now start class!

D. Explain Now class, based on that activity, what

are the four planets closest to the sun?
Yes, (name of student)? Ma’am! The four planets closer to
the sun are the Mercury, Venus,
Earth and Mars.
That’s correct! These four planets are
the closest to the sun, and they are
known as the terrestrial planets or the
inner planets. Also, these four planets
have rocky surfaces enclosed by a
relatively shallow atmospheres.
Now class, for 5 stars, who can tell me
on what is the name of the first planet
which is closest to the sun?
Yes, (name of student)?
That’s correct very good!
Ma’am! Mercury!

Mercury is the closestplanet to the

sun. It rotates slowly about twice for
every three orbits. Its cratered surface
can experience temperatures upwards
of 800° F (426.7°C) because of its
proximity to the sun. However,
temperatures on the side facing away
from the sun are cold — about -279 F
(- 173 C). Slightly larger than Earth's
moon, it is the smallest planet the
solar system. It has no moons no rings,
and an atmosphere so thin that
scientists classify it as an exosphere.

Now, who can tell me on what is the

second planet closest to the sun?

Yes, (name of student)?

Ma’am!
That’s correct very good!
Venus ma’am!

Venus is the second planet closest to

the sun. It is the largest planet seen in
the night sky. The cratered surface is
hot with surface temperatures around
900 F (482 C), the product of a
runaway greenhouse effect. Although
the atmosphere is nowhere near as
thick as that of any outer planet, it's
the thickest of the terrestrial planets,
and it consists mostly of sulfuric acid
and carbon dioxide. The density of its
atmosphere makes the air pressure at
the surface 90 times that of Earth's.
The heat and pressure make the planet
decidedly inhospitable to life.
Now, what is the third planet closest to
the sun?
Yes, (name of student)?
Tha’ts correct, very good!

Ma’am!
It’s earth ma’am!
Earth is the third planet closest to the
sun and the largest terrestrial planet, is
the only planet known to host living
beings and the only one known to have
liquid water on its surface. The
atmosphere, made of mostly nitrogen,
oxygen and carbon dioxide, is crucial
to Earth's ability to support life.
Although the surface of the earth is
mostly water, the planet also has large
landmasses which harbor a stunning
variety of ecosystems.
Now, what is the fourth terrestrial
planet?
Yes, (name of student)?

That’s correct, very good!

Ma’am!
Mars ma’am!

Mars is the fourth planet closest from

the sun. It is also known as the Red
Planet. The red color of the surface
comes from iron oxide or rust in the
soil. The topography is characterized
by large volcanoes and deep valleys,
and Mars experiences frequent planet-
wide wind storms. Some of the surface
features of Mars, such as dry river
beds, hint to the possibility that water
previously existed on the planet and
may still flow carbon dioxide
atmosphere is very thin on Mars, with
only 1/100th the atmospheric pressure
of Earth. The planet is colder than
Earth, with surface temperatures
ranging from -171 to 32 F (-113 to 0 C).

Now, who can tell me onwhat do we

call about the last four planets in our
solar system?
Yes, (name of student)?
That's correctl!
They are called as the Jovian planets or Ma'am
the outer Planets.
It’s the Jovian Planets ma’am
Now, who can tell me about the names
of the last four planets in our solar
system?
Yes, (name of student)?

Very good! So, Ma'am

Those are the last and the four farthest
The last four planets in our solar
planet from the sun. They are also
system is the Jupiter, Saturn,
classified as the gas and ice giants.
Uranus, and Neptune.
They are much larger than the
terrestrial planets, but their cores are
small and icy. Most of their size is
formed by a combination of gases that
become denser and hotter as you get
closer to the core.

Now, for five star, who can tell me the

first farthest planet from the sun?
Yes, (name of student)?
That’s correct very good!

Ma’am!
It’s Jupiter!

Jupiter is the first gas giant planets in

our solar system. Its characteristic
colored cloud patterns are caused by
enormous, swirling storms in its
atmosphere, which consists of
primarily of hydrogen, helium,
methane ammonia and water ice. The
largest and most distinctive of the
storms, the Great Red spot, is larger
than Earth. Jupiter has 63 moons and a
faint ring system.
Now, what is the second furthest
planet from the sun?
Yes, (name of student)?

That’s correct, very good! Ma'am

Saturn ma’am!

Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun,

is also a gas giant, and it's most
impressive feature as seen from afar is
an extensive and complex ring system.
The rings orbit the planet in a thin
band about a mile thick. The radius of
Saturn is about 9.5 times that of Earth,
and instead of one paltry moon, it
boasts 62. The interior of Saturn, like
Jupiter, is made of mostly hydrogen
and helium. Nearing the core, the
intense pressure turns the gases into
liquids and ultimately into a metallic
form that conducts electricity.
Now class, what is the third furthest
planet from the sun?
Yes,(name of student)?
That’s correct, very good!
Ma'am
Uranus ma'am

Uranus is the 7th planet that is farthest

from the sun. While most planets spin
on their axis with a slight tilt, the ice
giant Uranus spins on an axis parallel
to its orbit. With a diameter of 31,518
miles (50,723 kilometers), this cold
planet is four times the size of Earth
and is made of a large atmosphere of
methane with a dense core of frozen
methane. Uranus has a faint ring
system and 27 moons in its orbit.

Now, what is last and furthest planet

from the sun in our solar system?
Yes, (name of student)?
That’s correct!
Ma'am
Neptune ma'am

Neptune is the farthest one from the

sun and, like Uranus, is a very cold
place. It is also known as the blue
planet. Its surface temperature is a
chilly - 353 F (-214 C). Because of its
distance from the sun and its large
orbit, one year on Neptune is 165
Earth years. The atmosphere is mostly
methane, which gives the planet its
blue color. The cold interior of the
planet is mainly methane ice. Like all
the outer planets, Neptune, like
Uranus, has a diameter roughly four
times that of Earth. Thirteen moons
and a faint ring system orbit the
planet.

So class, those are the characteristics

of the eight planets in our solar
system.

E. Elaborate Since you already knowthe

characteristics of theeight planets in
our solar system, who can tell me the
differences between the terrestrial
(inner) planets and Jovian (outer)
planets? Ma'am
Yes, Angel!
They are different in size, distance,
That’s correct! composition, gases in atmosphere,
So, those are the differences between number of moons, and movement.
the inner and outer planets.

Now class, how are they similar?

Yes, (name of student)? Ma'am
They are similar in terms of their
shape, inner planet (solid
That's correct! They are similar in sizes rock),outer planet (gases giants),
and they orbit around the sun. As for and they orbit around the sun.
inner planets, they are similar because
they are composed of solid rocks,
while the outer planets, they are gases
giants. Scientists count eight planets
overall in our solar system.

Now class, you are going to have

another group activity.
Instruction: For this activity, you are
going to create a Graphic organizer of
your choice, that shows the eight
planets in our solar system.
(Graphic organizer may be vary)

F. Evaluate Again class, how many planets do we

have in our solar system? And what
are they?
Yes, (name of student)! Ma'am
All in all, we have eight Planets in
our solar system. These are the
mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Very good, that’s correct! Neptune.

So, how many planets orbit around the

terrestrial area?
Ma'am
Yes ( name of student )? What are Four ma'am. Mercury, Venus, Earth,
they? and Mars ma'am.

How aboutthe Jovian planets?

Anyone?
Yes, (name of student)? Ma'am
There are also four Jovian planets,
and these are the Jupiter, Saturn,
That’s correct very good! Uranus, and Neptune.

Now clas we will have a short quiz.
