ABSTRACT

Bolt-Nut connectors are one of the basic types of fasteners used in machines and
structures. They play an important role in the safety of the system. Most frequent
reason for the failures of bolt-nut system is the stress concentration in the threads.
Stress concentration due variable cross-section and unequal load distribution can
cause failure in connectors. Various geometric modifications to basic Bolt-Nut
connectors including grooves and steps on the bolt and nut are studied using finite
element software ANSYS 14.5 Workbench. Modelling and analysis of different
designs results in some significantreduction in stress concentration.
