Irish Verbs 1 syllable past tense

The past tense


If the word starts with a consonant you add a ‘h’ after the first letter e.g. C​h​uir
If the word starts with a vowel you add D​’ ​e.g. ​D’​ith

1 syllable verbs
When you want to say ​we​ as Gaeilge you must use the ending
-eamar​ or ​-amar

If the last vowel in the verb is ​e​ or ​i​ you add ​-eamar ​to the end e.g. B​h​ris - B​h​r​i​s​eamar

If the last vowel in the verb is ​a o ​or ​u ​you add ​-amar ​to the end e.g. D​hú
​ n - D​h​ú​n​amar

Put the following verbs into sentences use both the singular e.g. chuir and the
plural chuiremar
E.g. Chuir sé an babhla ar an mbord. (He put the bowl on the table)
Chuireamar an cupán sa chófra. (We put the cup in the press)

2. Dhún/ Dhúnamar - closed
3. Ghlan/ Ghlanamar - cleaned
4. Chaith/ Chaitheamar - threw
5. Thóg/ Thógamar - took
6. D’ól/ D’ólamar - drank
7. D’ith/ D’itheamar - ate
8. Bhris/ Bhriseamar - broke
9. Rith/ Ritheamar - ran (r doesn’t take a ‘h’ after it)
10. Thit/ Thiteamar - fell
11. Bhain/ Bhaineamar - take off
