Different Seasons
1 in the Philippines
Do you consider the time of the year in planning your activities? How about
going on a field trip? or a vacation? How about the farmers, when do they plant and
harvest their crops?

In this lesson, you will deepen your understanding on why some people consider
the season in doing their activities. A season is the period of the year that is usually
characterized by a particular kind of weather (Padpad, 2015).

The sky is so dark,
The warm sun is glowing,
The clouds start raining

From January to February

The air is cold and dry

Dry season is so much fun

Especially under the heat of the sun
We can hike, swim, play, and run
and so with drying crops from the farm

Rainy Season is coming soon

Expect that there will be typhoons
Always bring umbrella to keep you safe
But it is better to stay at home for your own sake

How precious are the seasons

Wet and dry with reasons
Seasons are blessings
That hope and dreams are coming
What is It

Seasons in The Philippines

The Philippine climate, warm and humid year-round, is considered to be one of

the world’s healthiest tropical climates.
The Philippines has two seasons: wet and dry. This means that the solar
energy we receive is more or less the same throughout the year. Our climate is
warm and humid. The following factors influence a country’s seasons: the country’s
location (latitude), wind system, bodies of water, and amount of rainfall (Padpad,
2015).

Wet Season

 Wet season is characterized by a rainy season with thunderstorms and starts

in June and peaks in July to September.
 Daytime temperatures range from 30 to 36 degrees Celsius and during nighttime.
temperature ranges from 21 to 28 degrees Celsius.
 The air is hot and humid, bringing heavy rains and typhoons to the country.
 Rainfall is relatively high, but regional contrast is remarkable depending on the
size and position of the land, the location of mountain ranges, and the direction of
moisture- bearing wind.
 Precipitation is highest in the area where the southwest monsoon strikes.
During the rainy season, it is advisable to carry an umbrella, especially in the late
afternoon. It is also during the rainy season that the farmers are capable to plant
crops (Padpad, 2015).

Dry Season

 It is is characterized by hot and cloudless day.

 Between January and May, the climate is generally dry with occasional rain
showers. From January to February, the air is cold and dry.
 The peak of dry season is in April with less rain showers. The dry season is
influenced by seasonal wind and the northeast monsoon, the Amihan.
 Northeast breeze from Siberia and northern China is cool dry, which brings
prolonged periods of successive cloudless days.
 The temperature at daytime ranges from 25 to 32 degree Celsius and 22
degree Celsius at nighttime.
 It is advisable to wear light colored and cotton clothes during warm days
to be comfortable. During summer months, some people go on a vacation.
It is also the time for some people to dry their crops and other goods
(Padpad, 2015).
Factors Affecting Seasons in the Philippines

 The Philippines is located a little north of the equator. Being near the equator,
it receives vertical rays of sunlight.

 The sun’s heat causes much water to evaporate and to fall as it rains later on.
Some part of the year experiences dry season and wet season since the Earth
revolves around the sun.

 Different parts of the country experience short dry season while other parts do
not have marked rainy season (Padpad, 2015).\

 Another factor is the prevailing winds such as southwest monsoon

(Habagat) and northeast monsoon (Amihan) which blow mostly in a single
direction.

Habagat Amihan
Activities suited for Dry Season

 outing like picnics

 long trips
 recreational activities like hiking
 swimming
 mountain climbing
 gardening and house cleaning
 drying clothes
 ground improvement
Activities suited for Wet Season (Padpad, 2015)

 reading books
 watching television
 writing short stories, poems, and songs
 playing musical instruments
 blogging, chatting, surfing internet and playing video games
