BACKGROUND
There is need to renovate the floor of a room at your school and fit it with new tiles. The room
was initially carpeted. You are required to take the measurements of the floor and clearly
workout the area of the floor and then calculate the number of tiles needed for the room.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

- Measuring skills
- Units of measurements and correct use of scale
- Calculation of number of tiles needed for the room
- Size of tiles you have chosen

CALA TIPS
- Identify the room and state its shape
- Use scale factor to find the actual area of the room
- Calculate the number of tiles needed for the room
- Use any tile of your choice
- Show working clearly
MARKING GUIDE
- Measure the dimensions of the room (3)
- Calculate the perimeter of the floor (5)
- Calculate number of tiles on each side (5)
- Calculate the number of tiles needed (5)
- Evidence of actual measurements taken (2)
