Sales Message
The Mesa melter is a mid-tier product that addresses the price and positioning needs of
customers that require a lower level of sophistication than the industry-standard, premium
priced ProBlue® melters. Mesa melters provide a piston-pump product offering with a
limited feature and option set.
ProBlue is always the default and first choice melter to sell. Remember, a Mesa melter sold
where a ProBlue melter could have been sold lowers the amount of profit to the corporation
as well as the amount of money the salesperson could have made by selling the higher
priced melter.
When faced with low-priced competitors such as Melton, ITW, Meller and Robatech, first
use the Mesa melters to compare features and compete for the sale and then try to up-sell
to the ProBlue melters if possible.
Customers that have legacy equipment and use ESP or other rebuild programs are a prime
candidate for Mesa if they have been apprehensive about switching to ProBlue due to price
or retraining. Retraining is minimal since only the controls are significantly different and
since they are Blue series they are very intuitive and easy to learn.
No separate remote transformer to install on the parent machine for 400 V/480 VAC delta
installations:
Saves engineering and installation time.
Saves material and labor since no additional electrical wiring is needed

Target Markets
New emerging market OEMs that do not have the capital necessary to acquire a ProBlue
melter. OEMs that will eventually require the ProBlue melter features and will be able to
afford the higher price associated with the ProBlue melters.
OEMs in mature markets that are developing lower-tier melters to address the market
needs of their customers. OEMs that want to keep the premium ProBlue melters on their
high-end lines and use the Mesa melters on lower-priced lines with fewer features.
OEMs and end users that sell into the agricultural packaging markets and want RTD
capabilities on their melters
Customers that keep rebuilding their old melters at a price point that we could not or
would not want to discount ProBlue melters to meet. Replacing melters rebuilt by third
parties with Mesa melters removes comparable equipment from the market and can
generate new part sale possibilities for Nordson.

With the additional I/O board, the total number increases to 10 configurable inputs and

additional I/O board installed total I/O is as follows:
Q. The 14-liter has three different pump options. What are the main differences?
A. Nordson offers two styles of piston pump, a dual-acting (standard and high-output) and
a single-acting design. All the pumps have excellent and reliable performance. None of
the pumps are superior to the others; they are just suited for different applications.
SP – This pump is also referred to as a 14:1 pump. This is the standard piston pump,
which has a hydraulic to air ratio of 14:1. This means that every unit of air pressure
yields 14 units of hydraulic pressure. The SP pump is a double acting pump; adhesive is
pumped on both the upstroke and the down stroke of the piston. The displacement per
stroke is 7.2 ml / stroke.
HO - High Output - This is also referred to as a 21:1 pump, 1 unit of air pressure yields
21 units of hydraulic pressure. It operates similarly to the SP pump, just has more
volume of adhesive that is dispensed out of the pump on each stroke. The displacement
per stroke is 16 ml/stroke.
SA - Single Acting - This is also referred to as a 10:1 pump since 1 unit of air pressure
yields 10 units of hydraulic pressure. This pump only dispenses adhesive on the down
stroke. The displacement per stroke is 35 ml/stroke. After the piston stroke is complete
(at the bottom) the piston has to be triggered by the customer with a signal to return to
the top via a large spring. Normally, this pump is used for delivering a long, continuous
constant-width bead.
Some customers use the SA pump because no pump wink (a drop in hydraulic pressure)
can occur. Pump wink is exhibited in the double-acting piston pump (HO and SP) when the
piston either shifts from the upstroke to down stroke or for the down stroke to upstroke.
The result of pump wink is a decrease in the bead width. In the majority of packaging
applications the wink is not noticed in bead quality, just in large, long high-volume beads.
The disadvantage to the SA pump is the reset time. If a customer is gluing many products
per minute and the distance is small between each product, then products would not be
glued when the piston is reset from the bottom to the top.

The transformer(s) reduce the input electrical service to 230 volts. The main circuit
board in the melter electrical enclosure uses this voltage to operate hoses, guns, circuit
board power and options, but not the tank heaters.
A. The 6:1 pump is a specialty pump. Therefore you will need to order both a standard
Mesa melter with the 14:1 pump and the 6:1 pump service kit (PN 164684). The
6:1 pump will need to be installed in the melter at the customer’s plant.
