REFLECTIVE JOURNAL WRITING
Observe leadership stories around you (or reflect on your own story) and contemplate
on what you have witnessed, considering both effective and ineffective leadership
styles. Reflect on how these observations have shaped your understanding of
leadership, the lessons learnt and/or how you might apply these insights to your career
in the future.
Submission
- Your reflective journal should be a maximum of 1000 words.
- Use A4-size paper bound using 13 or 14 Times New Roman font.
- Submit by both hard copy and an electronic copy through Teams, by COB (i.e.
18:00) on the 9th session date.

Grading scheme (Total: 100)
Descriptive Observation (20): Evaluate the depth and specificity of the examples
provided. Look for evidence of keen observation and the ability to identify both
effective and ineffective leadership styles.
Critical Reflection (40): Look for thoughtful insights and connections made between
observed behaviors and leadership concepts in the course. Consider whether the
student articulates their personal perspective on the observed leading styles. A strong
critical reflection is reflected in the ability to question assumptions, challenge ideas
and thoughtfully analyze the observed leadership.
Application to Future Career/ Lessons learnt (25): Evaluate how well the student
articulates how they might apply the insights gained from their observations to their
future career. This should demonstrate a clear understanding of the relevance of
leadership in a professional context.
Clarity and Organization (15): Assess the clarity of expression, organization of
thoughts, and coherence in the journal. Look for well-structured paragraphs, proper
grammar, and effective communication of ideas.
