I have lived all my life being the only woman of my family, besides my mother. I have four
brothers, and all of them younger than me, so I have always been the “example to follow”.
As a result of this I have become quite authoritative, independent and in some way a good
leader. Apart from this, I am very studious, organized, and athlete, so many times, most of
my actions are closely observed and judged. Usually, this constant control over my actions
causes me distress due to the high pressure for doing the right things, but at the same time,
it generates that feeling of trying to improve and set more goals for myself.

All of this started at the end of 2018. It was summer and we were finishing the school year.
For most part of the year, I spent it thinking about ways to earn money. I investigated, I
asked, and because of various reasons I couldn’t find anything, some of the reasons were
like; I was too young, my schedules didn’t match or because many of them were not great
earnings, so I quite demotivated myself. However, one day I arrived from school and as
usual, I went to de kitchen to grab some food and I saw many grape boxes. At that very
moment, my grandparents came to my head; I knew exactly what my business would be.

They have a field in the third region with different varieties of grapes, which are exported
to different parts of the world. These fields are located in a very strategic place, due to the
climate the grapes are harvested much earlier than in other places of Chile, that was key for
the business. I knew right away that the demand was going to be huge. Apart from this I
researched and concluded that seedless grapes were the most demanded by people,
therefore those would be the ones that I would sell.

First I did a market study, in which I analyzed the supply and demand of my product,
regarding this, I based on the price I needed for my business to be successful. I negotiated
with my supplier and obtained an excellent price, which allowed me to obtain a large profit
margin and realize a victorious business. After this, I took care of the preparation of the
boxes, these initially came in harvested boxes of 12 kilograms so I had to do the packing,
which consisted of choosing the best bunches, weight them, and then pack them in smaller
boxes of 1 kilogram called clamshell. Next, I focused on the presentation of the clamshell; I
pasted labels and made the final details. Finally, when these were fully ready, I posted
photos of my product on Instagram and Whatsapp groups. Right after this, people started
contacting me to reserve grapes. It was a long process, it demanded a lot of work since I did
it completely alone, but I didn’t give up, every day after school I stayed around two hours
selling them and making deliveries.
The business went awesome, it was all a success, I sold all my merchandise and my profits
were highly satisfactory.

When it was all over, I felt a strange sensation, something had clicked on me, I knew that
something had changed. I noticed that I had had a really good performance in my sales. I
really had that capacity to organize myself, to be responsible since I also had to manage
school and the business, and the most important one: I had that motivation, that
persistence to continue going, to don’t give up, and to carry on my work. My mind cleared
up, I was able to realize that I was really into doing business. My parents are merchants,
both studied engineering, but the truth is that I never really cared much. I never paid
attention to their work and all the things they did, but with this experience, everything
became clear to me. I like to organize, to command, that everything works as planned, I am
perseverant and I love the business, I love to create businesses, I love commerce.
