In the event of major flood, food and medical supplies sometimes need to be dropped
from the air. Often these supplies will be damaged due to high velocity impact upon
reaching the surface of the earth. Parachutes are used to reduce the velocity.

11 Study the following situation.


Kaji situasi berikut.

Raju has inserted a little bit of ammonia solution into a bucket filled with the latex
to ensure that the latex remains liquid after being collected from the tapped rubber
tree. When he wanted to produce rubber pieces, he inserted a small amount of
formic acid into the latex where the latex coagulated after a few hours. This
situation shows that the presence of acids and alkali affects the coagulation of latex.

12 Pada sekitar tahun 1940-an, penyelidikan awal tentang tenaga nuklear dijalankan untuk menghasilkan
bom. Hasil sampingan daripada pembelahan nuklear, iaitu plutonium boleh digunakan untuk
membuat bom atom. Dunia telah menyaksikan satu malapetaka yang dahsyat apabila tenaga nuklear
digunakan untuk menghasilkan senjata nuklear. Senjata nuklear pernah digunakan semasa Perang
Dunia Kedua oleh Amerika Syarikat terhadap Hiroshima dan Nagasaki.
Sehingga kini, tenaga nuklear terus menjadi pilihan bagi negara-negara di dunia seperti Amerika
Syarikat, Rusia dan China sebagai sumber alternatif tenaga elektrik selain daripada senjata nuklear.

A byproduct of nuclear disarming, that is, plutonium can be used to make atomic bombs. The world
has witnessed a devastating catastrophe when nuclear energy is used to produce nuclear weapons.
Nuclear weapons were used during the Second World War by the United States against Hiroshima
