PLAN OF INVESTGATION
My group theme is abuse. Hence my sub-topic is what are the effects of sexual
abuse on victims. I selected this topic because it’s an increasing matter among my
peers, and it is affecting us in every way. While undertaking this research, I want
to develop my summary writing skills as well as my oral competence. These skills
will be used in my reflections and during my oral presentation. To collect data, I
will be utilizing books, articles and journals. Therefore, my artefacts include an
article, a poem and lyrics from a song

A child so small
So vulnerable and weak
Helpless, powerless
Not allowed to speak.
Lying awake in bed
Knowing he’ll soon appear
Frightened and trapped
Living a torturous nightmare.
Body is shaking
Trembling within
Preparing for
The terrible acts of sin.
Left all alone
With no one in sight
The abused child cries silently
All through the night.

How does one heal


From such a horrible crime?
The scars, the damage
Lasts a lifetime.

“Every night he would enter my room. I did not enjoy it. It was sheer horror. He
threatened me. I could tell no one. I was angry, hurt and humiliated. I felt
powerless. He threatened me. I could tell no one. I found release from my pain in
cutting myself. I endured this for years. My life was completely shattered. I
suffered for years. My stepfather sexually abused me.”
This is the voice of a woman who experienced prolonged, repeated sexual abuse as
a child. Every day I, as a mental-health professional, become more aware of the
extent of this problem. There are many women and men who are survivors of
childhood sexual abuse.
Powerlessness and violation
Sexual abuse has a profound psychological impact. Most people who experience
abuse develop a sense of powerlessness and helplessness. They live with the
terrible feeling that their body was invaded, defiled and violated. This results in
poor self-esteem and a sense of humiliation.

Victims often live in a world of silence, secrecy, shame and pain. They are silenced
through threats and bottle up their pain and suffering for years. This may result in
anxiety, depression, fear and out-of-body experiences. Some people constantly
report physical symptoms such as back pain.
Prevented from speaking about their pain, many individuals engage in self-
mutilating behaviors such as ‘cutting’ in order to relive the psychological pain and
gain attention. Others sometimes make repeated suicidal gestures such as
overdosing on drugs.

Child sexual abuse and molestation come with serious long-term effects. Child
abuse is known to cause serious harm to a victim’s lifelong mental and emotional
health. These consequences can create a domino effect, rippling outward to affect a
victim’s relationships, physical health, educational success, earning ability, and
quality of life.
The CDC estimates that 91% of childhood sexual abuse is perpetrated by someone
the child knows. Children often do not report sexual abuse. Sometimes, this is out
of fear or shame. However, not all child sexual abuse happens in the same way.
When a child is molested, they may not realize until adulthood that they were the
victim of sexual abuse.
The statutes of limitations for taking legal action over childhood sexual abuse are
set on a state-by-state basis. In recent years, there has been a national movement
toward re-examining and lengthening the statutes of limitations surrounding
childhood sexual abuse. This has led to an increase in adult survivors coming
forward decades after the abuse occurred. It’s never too late for childhood sexual
abuse victims to get help and pursue justice.
What counts as child sexual abuse?
Experiencing childhood sexual abuse or molestation is considered an adverse
childhood experience (ACE). An ACE is a traumatizing event that can go on to
negatively impact nearly every aspect of a person’s well-being.
Childhood sexual abuse is a complicated issue. It can happen in many different
ways, and a victim’s reactions are highly individualized.
Child abuse is identified by the CDC as occurring when a child under 18 is
involved in sexual activity that they don’t understand or cannot consent to.
Legally, any child under the age of consent is a victim of sexual abuse when they
are involved in any type of sexual activity.

REFLECTION 1
The poem chosen was entitled a cry for help by Barbara green was published on
August 2013 which is about how an adult is threatening the child and harming his
or her. I learned that children’s behavior is going to change to see if anyone cares
and not trusting anyone anymore.
The article titled sexual abuse silent shame pain by gleaner was published on
March 17 2010. The article tells us that sexual abuse caused the victims to harm
his or her herself and makes them to feel Powerless, humiliated, Hurt and angry. I
learned that sexual abuse made the victim loose confident in oneself known to
cause serious harm to a victim's life long mental and emotional health.
The article titled sexual abuse long term effective on child sexual abuse and
molestation by Was published on May 8 2023. The main point of this article is that
it is known to cause serious harm to a victim’s life long mental and emotional
health. I learned that sexual abuse can have a negative impact on children’s life.

REFLECTION 2
In all of the pieces chosen the language used was formal. My first piece” A cry for
help” used irony in the poem. A example to support this device is ‘my body is
shaking, trembling within preparing for the terrible act of sin’ inside source. This
stanza is effective as it allows the audience to listen to experience disgust in a
satirical tone. In my second piece “sexual abuse: silence, shame, pain" the article
uses repetition through the article. An example to support this device is
“experienced prolonged, repeated sexual abuse as a child. Every day I, as a mental-
health professional, become more aware of the extent of this problem". These lines
are effective as it helps the reader to understand the despair the victims feel that
nobody helped her and nobody can set her free. This also shows that the person is
alone. The third piece entitled,” long term effective on child sexual abuse” Uses
Transferred epithet throughout the article an example to support this is,” Child
abuse is known to cause serious harm to a victim’s lifelong mental and emotional
health". This is effective as this allows readers to realize how Rampant sexual
abuse is.

REFLECTION 3
Doing this English language SBA has helped to improve knowledge about the
topic that was chosen, that the research was success.
The researcher is now better equipped at conducting research. Previously I had a
weakness in language writing. This SBA taught are plethora of lessons about the
use of pursuing a career, organizing myself and managing my time wisely.
Furthermore, this SBA process has led me to the opportunities to show how
competent I can be. This research has helped me to see things clearly now, because
of the topic that was chosen.

WRITTEN REPORT
This SBA Started with our teacher explaining to us the different sections of the
English SBA. Once we fully understand this, we select our group members and our
theme and subtopics. Once I had all these in place, I had to do my research to find
evidence for my artifacts. The research of this project was made with the dedicated
use of the Internet and with the help of a friend. The article was very informative
and helped improve my grammar and vocabulary. Clarification with information
found was victorious. It gives me more knowledge about the theme/ subtopic, it is
very important, the research has taught me a lot of things and guided me on the
research. Whilst doing this assessment, I have become more competent and aware
of situations, my thinking capabilities have widened and prepare me academically.
The outcomes of this assessment were quite amusing as it went perfect as I would
have Thought. All objectives were met, and I was able to complete the SBA on
time that was granted unto me. When in doubt, my teacher would help and guide
me step by step, she would meet with us daily and explain the order in which the
SBA’s should be written. As a student that had some struggles, I think I did
exceptionally well and now I’m confident in myself.
