Thou art not so unkind
As man’s ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
Because thou art not seen,

Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
This life is most jolly.
1- Paraphrase the above lines.
The poet asks the wind to blow hard. He says that the cold, strong and biting wind is much
kinder than ungrateful friends. He adds that although the wind blows very hard and it is unseen
yet it is not as sharp as man and it can’t hurt as man. He says that friendship is fake and love is
only foolishness.

2- Identify the figures of speech and explain them.

The poet personifies the winter winds as a person whom he can address.
2- Simile: As man’s ingratitude “The winter wind is compared to man's ingratitude.”

2. Read the following passage then answer the questions below:
Obesity is the abnormal buildup of body fat — 20% or more over a person's ideal weight.
Obesity is a serious health problem in many countries today. The
medical specialisation that studies and treats obesity is bariatrics. People who are obese
have a higher risk of heart disease and other diseases such as diabetes and some kinds
of cancer.
Scientists know that people gain weight if they eat more calories than they
burn. But they do not understand exactly why some people become overweight and
others do not. There are several theories.
If you need to lose weight, you should check with your doctor for a healthy diet
and exercise programme. The process of losing weight is not easy. You should aim to
lose weight gradually, about 2 kilos per month. You should eat smaller amounts of fatty
foods and exercise regularly. With effort you will achieve your goal.

In this stanza, the poet asks the winter wind to freeze the water. He says that although the
freezing winter water is so biting, it is less painful than a thankless friend who forgot friendship.
The effect of man’s ingratitude is felt more and has more bad effect on human beings than cold
weather that is so shocking and it can turn the water into ice.
