Good morning pupils

Good morning, sir
How are you today?
We are fine
It’s good to hear that from you.
Everybody stand and pray
The pupils will stand and pray
Today, you are going to learn
something new!
Are you

ready? Yes, we
are ready
Well, if you are all ready, may I
invite everybody
The students will actively
participate
to stand for an energizer.
….ENERGIZER…..
Thank you pupils. You may take
your seats. The pupils
will sit

Please be silent and let us pray. The students will stand and pray.

b. Greetings

Good morning class. Good morning Teacher.

How are you today? We’re good Teacher.
Are you ready for our lesson for today? Yes we are.

Let’s check the attendance.

If I call your name say Present. Present

Great! There is no absent today.

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill
I prepared an activity for you.

Direction: Encircle the 5R’s of Responsible The students will find the words.
Waste Management.

2. Review
Do you remember our lesson last time? Yes, Teacher.
What was our lesson yesterday? “Changes in Materials that are Useful to
one’s Environment” (5’Rs)

Very good! If you really understood our lesson

yesterday I prepared an activity for you.

The name of this activity is “Tell Me Who I am”.

I will describe each type of Reponsible Waste Management
then you have to name the type of 5’Rs I am referring to.
Are you ready? Ye we are.

1. Simply creating less waste. Use a cloth bag/eco bag Reduce

instead of plastic bag, when you buy groceries.
2. Process of converting waste maerials into new materials. Recycle
Used bottles, tin cans be turned into useful materials.
3. Restoration of a broken, damaged or failed device or equipment. Repair
Have appliances, lighting fixtures and othersand fixed
instead of buying new ones.
4. Using an object/material again. Use both sides of paper Re-use
when printing and re-use as scratch paper, gift wrapper, etc.
5. Decompose or break down into smaller parts. Make a Rot
compost pit/bin in the yard for your biodegradable materials
such as fruits, vegetables.

B. Developmental Activities
a. Motivation

Let’s have a mini puzzle game. Combine the pictures together
To see the whole picture.

b. Presentation
Let’s read a poem. The students read the poem.
POLLUTION
Pollution is the process of making land, water,
air dirty and not safe to use.
One or more of the following characteristics are
flammable, corrosive, toxic, or reactive
Land pollution, air pollution and water
pollution are the major kinds of pollution
Long-term exposure to air pollution can lead to
chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer and other diseases
Unsafe drinking water could cause allergies, cancer,
or other problems
The ozone layer depletion main cause is the
chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs
It is a good idea to at least be aware of most of them to
limit one’s exposure
Obey proper waste management like to reduce, reuse,
recycle, repair and rot
Never mind the harmful effects of the changes in our
environment, be responsible.

c. Discussion
Human behavior affects the natural environment in a
variety of ways. Certain changes in materials are harmful
to the environment.

What can you see in the picture?

Burning of old tires

Factory waste

Air pollution- is a mixture of solid particles and

gasses in the air. These changes in environment cause
air pollution. The chemicals released mixed up in the
atmosphere that harms people and other living things
that are harmful to health. Polluted air causes skin
itchiness, lung infections, cancer and other respiratory
diseases.

Improper waste disposal

Cutting of trees

Land Pollution- Forest had been cleared to give way

to housing projects that lead to loss of habitat of animals
and soil erosion. It happens when improper waste
disposal is practiced. The toxic substances that are
that are deposited on the earth’s surface harm our health
and well – being and affect food, water and air quality.

Throwing of garbage into the river

Water Pollution- Too much garbage in water results in a

low level of oxygen which affects fishes and other
aquatic animals and plants. If we drink water
contaminated with germs, we are likely to get
sick/diseases.

What are some ways of preventing/minimizing the

harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the
environment? We should practice the 5R’s Responsible
Waste Mangement: Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle, Repair and Rot

d. Generalization
What are the harmful effects of the changes
in materials to the environment? The harmful effects are land, water and
air pollution

E. Application
Write the effects of these changes in the
environment. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
Air Pollution B. Water Pollution C. Land Pollution
1. Release of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbon)
2. Throwing garbage in the canal
3. Deforestation
4. Smoke from vehicles
5. Using pesticides in killing insects
6. Burning of Wood
7. Throwing hospital waste in the river
8. Burning of fossil fuels
9. Using detergents in washing clothes in
the river
10. Disposing batteries, bulbs and heavy
metals in the dumpsite

IV. Evaluation

Directions: Match the following pictures to their corresponding effects. Write the letter of the correct answers in
your notebook.

a. It affects the quality of the air that we breathe. It causes rapid change in temperature.
b. Polluted land serves as breeding places for flies, cockroaches, rats which carry germs that cause diseases.
c. The smoke and toxins from the household garbage that enter the air also contribute to the greenhouse effect
and global warming.
d. When the surrounding air is blanketed with smoke from factories and motorized vehicles, the air becomes
polluted and can cause skin itchiness, lung infections, cancer, and other respiratory diseases.
e. The river becomes polluted and can cause diseases to fish, water plants and even humans.

V.Assignment

Downloaded by Donna Belle Costibolo (ibanezdonna29@gmail.com)

In your answer sheet, write True if the statement describes the harmful effects of the changes in
materials and False if not.
1. Burning of garbage such as plastic materials, rubber and other waste is harmful to the
environment.
2. Polluted land serves as breeding places for flies, cockroaches and rats that carry germs that
causes diseases, hence hazardous to one’s health.
3. Cutting down of trees are prohibited and to solve this problem deforestation should be done.
4. Improper waste disposable of garbage contributes useful effects to the environment.
5. The 5Rs should be practiced in preventing and minimizing the harmful effects of the changes
in the environment.
