Q.No.6. (a) A boat running upstream takes 8 hours 48 minutes to cover a certain distance, while it takes 4
hours to cover the same distance running downstream. What is the ratio between the speed of the boat and
speed of the water current respectively?
(b) A pipe can fill a tank in 6 hours and another pipe can empty the tank in 12 hours. If both the pipes are
opened at the same time,the tank can be filled in how many hours?
(c) A shopkeeper sold an article for Rs. 2500. If the cost price of the article is 2000, find the profit percent.
(d) Differentiate with examples between a pictogram and histogram.

Q.No.7. (a) A group of students volunteered to finish a construction work in 25 days. 10 of the students did not come
and the work could be finished in 35 days. How many the original number of students in the group?
(b) A man buys 5kg of meat at Rs.500 per kg. In addition, for every kilogram of meat purchased, he has to
pay a consumption tax of 6% on the selling price. Calculate the total amount of money that he has to pay.
(c) Divide Rs.500 between Arham, Mariam and Sarim so that Arham gets 2/3 of what Mariam gets and
Mariam gets ¼ of what Sarim gets. Find the share of each.
(d) A shopkeeper buys 300 identical articles at a total cost of Rs. 1500. He fixes the selling price of each
article at 20% above the cost price and sells 260 articles at this price. As for the remaining articles, he sells
them at 50% of the selling price. Calculate the total profit.

Q.No.8. (a) A school has enough provision of food for 52 days. After 20 days a group of 400 students arrives and the
food would have last for 24 days only. How many students are there in the school actually?

(c) Five friends Ahmad, Ali, Akbar, Nasir and Shehbaz went on summer vacation to five cities namely V,
W, X, Y and Z by five different modes of transport, that is by bus, train, aeroplane, car and boat from point
A. Akbar went to Y by car and Ali went to X by air. Nasir travelled by boat whereas Shehbaz went by train.
For X and W there is no bus service. The person who went to X did not use boat to travel. Now answer the
following questions.
(i) How did Ahmad travel and where did he go?
(ii) Which mode of transport was used by the person who travelled to X city?
(d) A farmer keeps hens and rabbits on his farm. One day he counted the total of 70 heads and 196 legs. How
many more hens than rabbits does he have?
