1: COMMUNITARISRISM:

I understand that communitarianism is about being motivated by a sense of communal

responsibility. Pacific people consider collectiveness as a core value. There was a pacific person that
I've supported. I found out that for him, the family includes an extended family. I found out the
cultural obligations experienced around the contribution of different critical cultural events to follow
to perform the task assigned to me.
I understand that mutual help in pacific people means a lot as they mutually help and support each
other with the mean of time or money or anything that is needed. I found out the help that was
required by my client in his personal care, and I made plans according to it so I could mutually support
him.

I recognized that a pacific person used to live in an extended family, and family is considered as the
center of the community and a way of life. I tried to understand how I could support my client in his
personal care with the help of family and make plans according to this factor.

I understand that a consensual approach is necessary as it is made by mutual consent among people. I
found out that my client can engage with non-Pacific providers for his personal care, but he wants me to
be culturally competent in delivering services that cannot be overstated. So, I took care of this while
taking personal care of my client.

I recognize that spirituality is important throughout the Pacific people. I recognized that my client wants
to offer his prayers, religious ceremonies, which I have to consider and most important for them all was
his spiritual belief as he was fully indulged in spirituality. I made plans for his personal care according to
it, so I could mutually support him.

When I came to know that respect is one the most important part of Pacific people, I find out that which
things are considered as respect for my client. I came to know that the way things are getting done, the
expected behavior, keeping face, and acknowledging someone's status are included in all this, so I take
care of all such things while supporting my client so he could not think that am disrespecting him.

I understand that the custom of the pacific people is promoting an honorable and noble lifestyle. I tried
to understand the lifestyle which was my client preferred, and I served him according to his lifestyle so
he could easily follow my instruction for his personal care.

Ancestry and ancestral health background are important to know while making personal care. It is
important to recognize if there is some ancestral health issue in my client's family or in my client. By
knowing the medical history of my client's family, it becomes easy for me to recognize certain things I
can do to support my client's personal care.

In my organization, the policies and procedures in terms of safe cultural principles and Pacific values are:

1: Meaningful and reciprocal engagement

2: Cultural sensitivity and respect

3: Significance of Pacific people's knowledge

4: Linking health research to a social protection framework

5: Non-maleficence: Protecting Pacific communities

6: Balance between science and human dignity

While I was supporting a person from the Pacific group, I understood that sometimes health involves
certain matters which are deeply personal and private and may unintentionally cause offense both to
individuals and to cultural groups. As respect is important for cooperation, I ensure my client that I know
his place in the community and will maintain his social solidarity. By understanding the culturally safe
principle, it becomes easy for me to communicate with my client non-verbally.

13: The values of the person I supported in relation to family and kinship includes:

 Love: it is a universal value for Pacific peoples, it indicates care and concern for others,
compassion and kindness.
 Respect: it tells us how we treat others and the way we view situations. It includes respect
of self, others, space and environment. Respect ensures that every Pacific person,
irrespective of age, gender, sexuality, spiritual beliefs or cultural status, feels safe and
protected. The practice of respect supports the maintenance of wellbeing.
 Reciprocity: it acknowledges the importance of relationships and maintaining a balance
between individuals, families and communities. Every expression of kindness, support
and respect will be reciprocated at a time and in a way that honor the people involved
and who and what they represent.
