Conditional Sentences:

1) Factual Conditional/Zero Conditional


If/when I DO sth , I DO sth
When I have some money, I buy ice-cream.
When I don’t get enough sleep I usually feel very tired.
When/If I don’t finish my homework, I can’t go to bed.
When I can’t find my keys or glasses, I get very angry.
2) First Conditional (Intention for future)
If I DO sth, I WILL DO sth
If I have money, I will buy ice-cream.
If we have some free time, we will go to the cinema tomorrow.
If you don’t do your homework, I will reveal your secret to mom and dad.
If you tell my secret to anyone, I will kill you.
If you practice these grammar structures, you will not confuse them.
3) Second Conditional (Supposition about the Present)
If I DID sth, I WOULD DO sth
If I had money, I would buy ice-cream. (I don’t have money now to buy ice-cream)
If I had time, I would take a nap.
If we had some flour, I would bake a cake for you. (but we don’t have any)
If I had a pen, I would write, but I don’t have one.
If they came to our place, we would be really happy.
If I had some water in my cup, I would drink some.
If we practiced these structures, we wouldn’t confuse them.

4) Third Conditional (Supposition about the Past)


If I HAD DONE sth, I WOULD HAVE DONE sth
If I had had money 10 years ago, I would have bought a house.
Buy-bought-bought
If I had eaten something, I would have thrown it up.
Throw-threw-thrown
Mom, if you had prepared/ made dinner, I would have eaten it before the lesson.

If last time I had taken candy with me, I wouldn’t have gotten a headache.

If you had informed me in advance, I would have gone to work earlier instead of you and there
wouldn’t have been any problem.
