PNEUMATIC COMPONENTS &

EQUIPMENTS

1. AIR FILTER
As air is drawn into the air
compressor unit during intake, so
too are various contaminants, such
as dust, dirt, soot and pollen. These
impurities need to be filtered from
the air before it enters the
compressor and pneumatic system
to prevent damage to system.

2. AIR COMPRESSOR
The air compressor is vital to
the pneumatic system as it is the
device that compresses air. It does
so by drawing air into a chamber
and compressing it into a much
smaller space, which is what
provides the pressure that achieves
the force used to create motion.

3. AIR TREATMENT
EQUIPMMENT
Because the act of
compressing the air makes it too
warm for use and saturated with
moisture, the air must be cooled by
an after cooler as it it leaves the
compressor. Often there is an air
dryer involved, as well, which will
remove any moisture from the
compressed air and filtration before
and after the dryer to remove fine
particulates, liquids and compressor
oil introduced during the
compression process.

4. AIR STORAGE TANK

This is used to store the
produced, cooled and dried air that
leaves the air compressor. Air
storage tanks ensure a steady supply
of compressed air and help to offset
fluctuations in demand.

5. CONTROL VALVE
This are necessary in a
pneumatic system as they control
the direction and amount of air
entering the actuators.

6. ACTUATORS
A device within the system
that convert the energy of the
pressurized air into mechanical

movement. Linear actuators will

provide straight-line or linear
motion, while rotary actuators
provide rotary or circular motion.

ELECTRO-PNEUMATIC
COMPONENTS AND
EQUIPMENT

1. MANUALLY ACTUATED
PUSH BUTTON
Used to close or open an
electric control circuit. They are
primarily used for starting and
stopping of operation of machinery.
They also provide manual override
when the emergency arises.

2. LIMIT SWITCHES
Any switch that is actuated
due to the position of fluid power
component usually a piston rod or

hydraulic motor shaft or the position

of load is termed as limit switch.
The actuation of a limit switch
provides an electrical signal that
causes an appropriate system
response.

3. PRESSURE SWITCHES
It is a pneumatic-electric
signal converter. It is used to to
sense a change in pressure, and
opens or closes an electrical switch
when a predetermined pressure is
reached. Bellows or diaphragm is
used to expand or contract in
response to increase or decrease of
pressure.

4. SOLENOIDS
Electrically actuated
directional control valves from the
interface between the two parts of
an electro-pneumatic control.

5. RELAYS
It is an electro magnetically
actuated switch. It is a simple
electrical device used for signal
processing. It is designed to
withstand heavy power surges and
harsh environment conditions .

6. TIMERS
Timers are required in control
systems to effect time delay
between work operations. This is
possible by delaying the operation
of the associated control element
through timer.

7. TEMPERATURE SWITCHES

It is automatically senses a
change in temperature and opens or
closes an electrical switch when a
predetermined temperature is
reached.
