Conclusion
Faulty chrome (‘pop up’ chrome) found on pinion seal journal area (Picture A). Pinion need to send for
undercut, hard chrome and burnish. Fretting on thrust collar contact surface (Picture B), thrust collar need to
replace. Galling on impeller male polygon (Picture C, D & E) and pinion female polygon. All high spots
need to be remove. This might result in looseness and causes high vibration. The end result will only be
determined after assemble and test run. Recommend to replace rotor if high vibration encounter after
balancing. H.E.R.O is 0.11mils (within tolerance ≤0.25mils). All mechanical run outs are within tolerance
≤0.00025”.

Conclusion
Pinion male polygon (Picture F, G & H) worn out causing loose fit onto thrust collar instead of shrink fit.
Pinion need to replace. Fretting on thrust collar contact surface (Picture I), thrust collar need to replace.
Galling on impeller male polygon (Picture I, J & K) and pinion female polygon. All high spots need to be
remove. This might result in looseness and causes high vibration. The end result will only be determined
after assemble and test run. Impeller wheel nose (Picture L) had thinned which limit the amount of material
to be remove for correction. Impeller wheel need to replace. Recommend to replace 2nd stage rotor
assembly. H.E.R.O is 0.09mils (within tolerance ≤0.25mils). All mechanical run outs are within tolerance
≤0.00025”.
