Background of the Study

Water is the most vital nutrient for the body. You can survive for a few days by just
drinking water. However, it is not always guaranteed that the water you drink is clean, especially
in survival times. Disasters like typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, and floods will leave people
begging and becoming desperate for water.
Usually, anyone that got affected by the disaster will immediately think of buying bottled
water in the nearest store. So in 2017, a company in the USA called AMPAC USA comes up
with a product called Emergency Portable Watermakers. According to the AMPAC, these
products were designed to help people in situations like tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods.
An example of such a disaster in the Philippines like Super Typhoon Yolanda (also
known as Typhoon Haiyan) struck Tacloban, Leyte in 2013, and there become an immediate
need for food, shelter, clothing, and water. In a situation like this, the portable watermaker will
be able to help to provide clean water for the people.
As stated by AMPAC, it is not possible to take millions of bottles of water to the areas
affected by natural disasters but an emergency water filter can be easily carried if necessary.
After a disaster, the travel options will be limited but these filters can be transported to wherever
it need quickly. This product can save many lives.
The filters remove the bacteria, dirt, and debris to make the water safer to drink.
However, some of the watermakers have a small filter but you can still count on them for
removing the contaminants in the water. Hence, this study is conducted to help other people by
creating our own emergency portable distilled water maker. We can use the water from rivers,
seas, and streams to create our product that can help many lives.
