INDUSTRY PROFILE

1.1ORIGIN OF ELECTRICAL FIXTURES INDUSTRY:

The starting point of electrical industries is the great invention of electrical , First electrical fixtures industry in
India was KIRLOSKAR ELECTRIC COMPANY PT.LTD. Electrical fixtures industry has the history of more
than 50 years in India. In 1950's the distribution of electricity was confined to a limited area. Only big cities
have the power plants and the level of electrical markets.

1.2GROWTH RATE OF ELECTRICAL FIXTURES INDUSTRY:

Indian electrical industry has registered about 13-14% growth in the year 2014 from January march. It has
registered a growth of 4.25% in 2016-2017 (4.85% in 2015-2016.As compared to the same period for the year
2005-2006 the well-conceived APDRP programmed and passing of Electricity Act 2003 have provided a ray of
hope to the industry. Almost all sectors of electrical industry are indicating growth. In current favorable market
scenario today, the electrical industry can certainly look forward for growth. About 90% of the manufacturers
are MSMEs in most sub-sectors of the domestic electrical fixtures industry. It is estimated that currently the
total domestic electrical fixtures industry size exceeds Rs. 1, 10,000crores (approximately US$ 25 billion) and
exports of electrical equipment are around Rs.18, 000 cores (approximately US$ 4 billion). The industry
provides direct employment to around 5 lakh persons and indirectly to over 10 lakh persons.

1.3PRESENT POSITION OF ELECTRICAL FIXTURES INDUSTRY:

The domestic market in India is itself large, and one must firstly satisfy this market with products that meet
international quality standards. With increasing globalization, every international player is now operating in
India, providing goods and services complying with international quality. Once we deliver high quality products
and services within the domestic market, accessing the international market for exports should not pose a serious
challenge. The Electrical/Electronics Industry in India is growing to its full potential in the coming years and no
doubt that India will soon come to be recognized for quality products and services which in turn, will bring this
industry to a position of true leadership. Indian electrical industry has grown because of government's thrust on
it and also due to overall economic growth. It has also reached a stage where the industry has demonstrated its
capabilities. The industry has seen a growth of 20% and should continue at the same level for 22 the next few
years.

1.4PROBLEMS FACED BY ELECTRICAL FIXTURES INDUSTRY:

Lack of Domestic Availability of Critical Inputs / Raw Material:

There are several critical inputs used in the manufacture of electrical fixtures are not readily available
domestically and CRGO is a prime example, which is a critical raw material manufactured by 12 companies (no
Indian manufacturer) in the world, and totally imported.

Looming Skill Gap and Manpower Issues:

The electrical fixtures industry is facing a major problem in getting skilled and employable manpower which is
technically competent, equipped with skills and ready to be deployed. The problem requires concerted and
collaborative action by the three critical agencies - technical institutes, industry and government. Technical
institutes should make it mandatory for teaching staff to spend 3-6 months once every 3 years in the industry to
continuously upgrade knowledge and to attend technical seminars on latest technologies to stay in touch with
recent developments, The government needs to provide additional funds and facilities to modernize technical
institutes, provide interest-free loans to technical institutes to upgrade their laboratories.

Lack of Standardization of Product Specifications & Design Parameters:

There are no appropriate standards specified by the Central and the State utilities and in some cases, tenders are
floated without dated specifications and design parameters which causes a lot of trouble to manufacturers.
Standardization of specifications for various fixtures will not only lead to cost competitiveness of the industry
being enhanced but also minimize the Leadtime in manufacturing and procurement. Inadequate Domestic
Testing & Calibrating Infrastructure: The domestic testing and calibrating facilities for electrical fixtures,
especially high voltage equipment, is inadequate and costly. Manufacturers have to send their products abroad
for testing for want of domestic testing facilities or long waiting period at CPRI, which results in high logistics
cost and time.

Promote a Culture of Innovation and R&D in the Industry:

There is slow pace of absorption of new technology by domestic manufacturers of electrical fixtures and also
user industries, and low investment in research & development (R&D). 23 According to estimates, less than 1%
of the annual turnover of the industry is invested in R&D.

Fast Implementation of GST:

There is urgent need to usher in the GST regime. It will resolve most of the complicated tax issues and industry
can focus its energy on productivity, R&D, business development, etc.

Lack of a Domestic Level Playing Field:

The built-up capacity currently stands under-utilized across several products due to lack of demand and a surge
in imports of electrical fixtures in recent years, especially from China, with uncertain lifecycle and quality.
Absence of a level playing field for the domestic industry to compete with imported electrical fixtures,
especially from China, is a clear and present threat. This is significantly impacting the commercial viability of
the industry and can have severe long-term consequences. Promote Exports: India's share in global exports of
electrical fixtures is less than 1%. Therefore, we need to incentivize exports of electrical fixtures as electricity
sector is a sunrise sector across the entire developing world.

1.5GOVERNMENT POLICIES TOWARDS THE INDUSTRY:

Government policies are helping. The Indian market for electrical fixtures has shown a steady growth and
increasing demand over the last couple of years, thanks to the initiatives taken by the government.

FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT:

On August 28th, 2017, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIP) had issued the updated and
revised Foreign Direct Investment Policy, 2017 - 2018 (FDI Policy 2017). The FDI Policy 2017 incorporated
various notifications issued by the Government of India over the past year. It is expected that the Government
will continue to bring about liberalization of the FDI regime in India in the months to come. All in all, we intend
to 24 maintain our trajectory towards remaining the world's most attractive destinations for foreign investment.

ENVIRONMENTAL STIPULATION IN INDIA:

"Newly-formed government in India has emphasized that each and every house should have a light bulb by
2019, creating huge demand for power by 2019.This has led to the requirement of energy-efficient lighting
systems such as LED light bulbs," says Raushan. Street-lighting, electrical fixtures, industrial and commercial
applications are boosting the market in India. Power Ministry has also intended to provide LED technology
under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyut Karan Yojana (RGGVY) initiative. Finally, government of India initiatives
like 'Bichat Lamp Yojna' and about how the Ministry of Power played an important role in promoting the use of
LED lamps under RGGVY scheme, Lahir says, "Railways have already started using LEDs in different utilities,
such as traffic signals and railway coaches.

GST:

The electrical and switch manufacturing industries in western India has applied to GST council to lower the
Goods & Service Tax on certain electric items to 12% from the proposed 28%. As per the proposed GST rates,
18% will be levied on electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits, switches relays, fuses
etc.

EXPORT AND IMPORT POLICY:

Lighting Fixture is exported from India to Germany, USA, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Spain with the
total value of export being 3.46 US$ million. Export duty is levied by the government when Lighting Fixture is
exported from India to any country. This tool helps you to find out duties one has to pay while exporting
Lighting Fixture. There was no customs duty on imported MPCBs (motor protection circuit breakers) so far,
while there was a 10% duty on finished LED products. According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB)
announcement, by 2019, 770 million LED bulbs and 35 million LED streetlights will be deployed to replace
conventional lights. Under the Den Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), 27.3 million LED bulbs
have to be distributed to BPL households.

1.6FUTURE PROSPECTS OF ELECTRICAL FIXTURES INDUSTRY:

The electrical fixtures industry comprises 40% of the entire electrical industry, which is expected to double in
size over the next five years. The industry is growing at a CAGR of 25 15% as a result of growth in the power
and infrastructure segments. It is expected to grow at similar rate for the next five years. The government's
emphasis on the electrical sector reforms and infrastructure will further drive growth. The 12th Plan (April 2012
to March 2017) and the 13th Plan throws huge opportunities for growth with envisaged investment of USD 300
billion, coupled with exports growth. However, in the medium term; industry is witnessing a decline in enquiries
and order finalizations’ development of E-commerce sales in the electrical fixtures industry to nowadays and
future prospects providing market size of electrical fixtures industry and Ecommerce sales, by country/area
(Europe, America, Asia) and by segment (Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Outdoor lighting) .There is
also a strategy for the E-commerce of electrical fixtures for the middle run, focusing on logistic platforms, price
promise, investments from incubators, increasing use of smart phones, lack of infrastructure.
