DESCRIPTION:
(1) The Japanese Ship Reporting System (JASREP) has been established to assist in the coordination of SAR
operations in the sea area bounded by the mainland of Asia, the parallel of latitude 17°00′·00N, and the meridian of
longitude 165°00′·00E.
(2) It is a voluntary system, in which all suitably equipped vessels are invited to participate.
(3) Vessels send regular reports where a computer keeps a continuous record of the predicted position of each
vessel. Should an expected report not be received, SAR action may be initiated.

REQUIREMENT FOR MESSAGES:

There are four types of message, each containing a selection of the items listed in the FORM OF MESSAGES
section; each comprises essential lines and such optional lines as thought necessary:

(1) A Sailing Plan (SP) should be sent when the vessel enters the area or leaves a port within the area. The
essential lines are A, B, G, I, L, V, E, F, Y and X. Example:

JASREP/SP//
A/KAIHO MARU/JJNA//
B/020440Z//
G/JASIN/1700N/13235E//
I/KISARAZU/3522N/13952E/060000Z//
L/RL/130/1700N/13235E/020440Z//
L/RL/130/3405N/13916E/051620Z//

V/NONE//
E/019//
F/130//
Y/AMVER//
X/030600Z//

(2) A Position Report (PR) should be sent within 24 hours of the previous position report or sailing plan. Vessels
suffering from heavy weather or other stress should report more frequently; however, actual weather reports should
not be sent through JASREP. The report comprises lines A, B, C, E, F, Y and X. Example:
