Individual Standard Ratings and Summary Statements


The rating for each Standard is based on overall performance in that
Standard, in alignment with the Professional Educator Performance Process—
Overall Evaluation Rubric. Each standard must be rated under one of the
following ratings: Not Meeting Standard, Approaching Standard,
Meeting Standard, or Exceeding Standard.
The Summary Statement sections for each of the individual Standards below are
required for all probationary professional educators. The Summary Statement
sections are also required for continuing contract professional educators whose
performance on the individual Standards below is rated as Approaching, Not Meeting,
or Exceeding.

If the continuing contract professional educator had received an overall evaluation of


Exceeding Standards on his/her previous formal evaluation, only the Summary
Statement for Standard VIII: Student Academic Progress is required. A list of these
professional educators is emailed to principals each fall confirming their status.

I. Summary Statement
This section is required for all probationary professional educators. This section is
also required for continuing contract professional educators whose performance is
rated as Approaching, Not Meeting, or Exceeding in this Standard.
Caitlin is meeting the standard for professional knowledge. She demonstrates an understanding of the
curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning
experiences. Caitlin promotes good citizenship among students. She incorporates current research and
strategies into instruction. Caitlin provides learning experiences that enable students to connect current
and prior learning. Caitlin uses the concepts, essential understandings, questions, and knowledge as stated
in the curricular documents to drive her instruction and assessment.

rated as Approaching, Not Meeting, or Exceeding in this Standard.
Caitlin is exceeding the standard for instructional planning. Caitlin plans using the Virginia Standards of
Learning, the school’s curriculum, student data, and engaging and research-based strategies and resources
to meet the needs of all students. Caitlin ensures all the materials are ready for instruction. Caitlin does a
good job of making cross curricular connections between math and science. She plans instruction that
challenges every student in his/her learning. Caitlin provides extension opportunities for students who
have completed the assignment and provides small group support for students who may need additional
time or visuals to process the concepts. She develops long and short-term instructional plans, Caitlin

reviews the pacing guide for the year and makes adjustments as necessary to ensure all concepts are
taught. Caitlin does an exceptional job collaborating with her colleagues to discuss students by name and
need. Caitlin and her co-teacher use the Core Extension time to work with students who need additional
help in math and she provides ideas to incorporate science into the language arts/geography block so her
students can make cross circular connections.

Caitlin is exceeding the standard for instructional delivery. Caitlin uses a variety of research-based
instructional strategies appropriate for the content area to engage students in active learning, to promote
key skills, and to meet individual learning needs. Caitlin does a great job supporting her ESOL students by
providing visuals including anchor charts and sentence frames. This helps provide structure for academic
discourse. She is doing an great job incorporating the strategies we are learning from the 7-Steps to a
Language Rich Classroom Professional Development sessions. Caitlin does an exceptional job
incorporating active learning strategies and provides hands on experiences for her students. She follows
the five E model for outstanding science instruction and provides opportunities for her students to explore
and be engaged in instruction. She then ensures that they can explain their thinking and provides
opportunities for them to elaborate. Finally, she always evaluates their learning with a checking for
understanding activity that is often included in her data sheets. Caitlin does an outstanding job integrating
technology into her instruction including using Gizmos, Phet Interactive, and interactive games. Her
communication techniques foster positive interactions within and outside the classroom. Her students are
highly engaged in the learning process which is aligned with our goal in the Continuous Improvement Plan.

Caitlin is meeting the standard for assessment of and for student learning. She systematically gathers,
analyzes, and uses all relevant data to measure student progress, guide instructional content and delivery
methods, and provide timely feedback to students, parents/caregivers, and her colleagues. She maintains
positive, professional relationships with parents to communicate student progress. She communicates
academic progress with parents through Class Dojo, phone calls, parent conferences, School Status, and
report cards. Caitlin uses both formative and summative assessments to improve instruction including unit
assessments, quick checks, data sheets, and exit tickets.

Caitlin is meeting the standard for learning environment. She uses resources, routines, and procedures to
provide a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment that is conducive to learning. Her
students are aware of the classroom routines and procedures which help her to maximize instructional
time. She does a good job using quick phrases that help her students get back on task. Caitlin does an
exceptional job providing additional support for a student who needs help focusing including using timers
and flexible seating. She collaborates with the counselor and administration to meet the needs of a few of
her students who need some additional support. Caitlin develops and maintains rapport with her students
and accomodates different learning styles.

Caitlin is meeting the standard for professionalism. Shedemonstrates a commitment to professional
ethics, collaborates and communicates appropriately, and takes responsibility for personal professional
growth that results in the enhancement of student learning. Caitlin actively takes advantage of
opportunities for professional growth and consistently integrates new learning into practice. Caitlin
continually reflects on her practice and looks for ways to improve her practice. Caitlin continues to do an
exceptional job supporting a new teacher on her team. She willingly shares resources and strategies that
have worked for her in the past. Caitlin routinely collaborates with her team mates including ESOL, general
education, special education teachers, specialists and administrators to promote and support student
success. She is an active member of the Collaborative Learning Team. Caitlin serves as the coach for the
robotics team. Caitlin is also serving as a mentor for a new fifth grade teacher. She attends family
engagement events. Caitlin has participated in numerous professional development opportunities this year
including Gizmos, Foss Hands on Science, and 7 Steps to name a few.

Caitlin's instruction results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress as
shown by multiple measures throughout the school year. Caitlin is making testing accommodations
including small group or one on one testing for a couple of students who need additional support. She
continues to work with students in small group who need additional support.

Note: A Professional Improvement Plan (PE PPP-5) must be developed for any rating of
Not Meeting Standard. A Targeted Support Plan (PE PPP-6) must be developed for any
rating of Approaching Standard. These forms are located in PWCS Perform.

Caitlin is an outstanding fifth grade teacher! She knows her students and plans engaging lessons that are
aligned with the rigor and relevance of the Virginia Standards of Learning. Her students are making
academic progress due to her hard work and dedication. She is a valuable member of the Belmont
community and we are thrilled that she choses to teach here!
