Mother Nena

Ria (son of Nena)

Father Fiel
Scene 1: Childhood
Narrator: Ever since childhood, Ria has always hated her mother because of her ugly eyes. She
was ashamed of her to the point that she wouldn’t want to see her mother at school because both
of them would be bullied and become laughingstocks. One day, Ria left her lunchbox at home, so
her mother went to school to give it to her.
(Mother Nena waves to Ria holding her lunchbox)
Ria: What are you doing here? I told you not to come here and look for me!
Mother Nena: You left your lunchbox at home; I just came here to bring it to you darling.
Xtra: Is dat yur mader??? Hahahhahah PANGIT AMP
Ria: Go away! I’m never going to eat that.
(Nena went home in grief)
Scene 2: Present Time
Narrator: From that day on, Ria never forgave her mother and held a grudge against her that she
still carries up until now. It happened 10 years ago, yet Ria has never moved on from it. She is still
full of hatred for her mother and has never helped her now that she is successful. It has been so
long since she moved from their home, therefore, she hasn’t seen her mother for more than 10
years. She never heard any news about her mother being left behind, all alone.
(Scene: Nena searching for Ria)
Narrator: One unusual day, as part of Ria’s job, she passed by their old home. It was open and
was very dark inside. She went inside to inspect; everything was covered with dust as if it is an
abandoned house from the 10th century. She tried to look for her mother, but after a while of
searching, she never found her. Until she went to the kitchen and saw a letter.
Dear darling,
I understand how much you hate my existence because of how I look like. But seeing you enjoy a
free and normal life is what makes me happy. Even though you hate it that I am your mother, I still
consider you as my dearest daughter. Maybe, this is the only way I can tell you the truth. When
you were young, your left eye was infected with Severe Keratitis. Your classmates used to make
fun of how you looked like, and it was very hurtful for a mother to watch her child being made fun
of. In order to save you from the bullies, we had to exchange our eyes, and there you have it. It
suits you very well, you little one. I cannot hold this life any longer without you, I will forever
cherish every moment that we had even for the shortest time in my life. We may not see each
other again, but you will still be my dearest daughter. You deserve to live a normal and happy life.
See you on the other side. I love you!
Love,
Your Mama
NARRATOR: Ria was in full tears after reading the letter that her mother left her. She was
speechless and never knew what to do. The day after, she attended mass and requested Father
Fiel to appoint a Confession. (They proceeded to the Confession Room)
CHURCH CONFESSIONAL - DAY
Father is seated in the confessional, where the mood is calm thanks to the dim lighting. Then RIA,
who is guilty, kneels as she enters the confessional.
(Sign of the Cross)
FATHER
Bless you, my child. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(Step 2)
RIA: I confess to Almighty God and to you, Father, that I have sinned. It has been quite a long time
since my last confession.
FATHER: Take your time, my child for the Lord is patient and merciful.
(Confesses Sins)
RIA: I've been struggling with anger and resentment, Father. I've hurt people with my words and
actions. My family and I are falling apart because of my unforgiveness. Now, my mother has
deceased lonely without anyone to be there by her side. It’s too late for me to apologize.
FATHER: The first step is acknowledging your faults. Tell me more, so we can find healing
together.
RIA (sorrowfully crying): I was so ashamed of my own mother way back then because of how she
looks like. I left her all alone for years; and recently, I visited our house, only to find out that she’s
gone forever. At the same time, that was also the moment when I found out that I was the reason
why she looks like that. That she donated her one eye for me to live a normal life. I never got the
chance to express my deepest apologies and appreciation of her sacrifices for me.
(Penance and Counsel)
FATHER: Confession is the path to reconciliation. In that case, your penance can be to carry out
acts of kindness and charity in memory of your departed mother. First, you must search for her
tomb. Honor their memory by visiting her tomb more often, put some flowers and candles, and
lastly, pray for her soul to rest peacefully and guide you in your life. Tell her you are very sorry for
your mistreatment towards her, and this will be your opportunity to talk to her and tell her
everything you wanted to say that you couldn’t express when she was still alive.
Together we pray the Act of Contrition
ALTOGETHER: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. I detest all my sins
because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell. But most of all because they offend You,
my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your
grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
(Prayer of Absolution)
FATHER: God the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled
the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the
ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in
the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(Sign of the Cross)
May the grace of our Lord be with you as you've opened your heart in confession. In the name of
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
FATHER: Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.
RIA: For His mercy endures forever.
FATHER: The Lord has freed you from your sins. Go in peace.
RIA: Thanks be to God.
