Today I was with Brooke and the morning time was a lot busier than the afternoon. We only had
4 patients in the afternoon but for some reason it felt like they took the longest. In the morning
we had a patient come in with a skin cancer on her head which is a lot more common than you
would think. Even though most of us have our hair to help protect us from sun exposure, we still
have the part where we part our hair so it’s important to put sunscreen there or to wear a hat. We
have a lot of patients who come in that have skin cancers on their head or pre-cancers so we
always advise them to never forget their sunscreen on top of their head. We had a drug rep bring
us lunch but he didn’t get here until around 12:45 because of a rec in Atlanta so we had to eat
really quickly. It kind of worked out though because we were behind on patients and didn’t get
done until round the time lunch got here. In the afternoon we had a patient come in with a wart
on her thigh. She was 12 years old and she was scared of needles but her mom wanted her to get
it cut off instead of freezing it with liquid nitrogen since that doesn't always work. It was kind of
funny but I felt bad for her at the same time because she didn’t want to get the numbing shot so
she was crying and we had to hold her down. But after it was done she started to laugh because
of how dramatic she was acting. Then our last patient had some type of infected cyst in her
private area so Brooke said I could just go home. It felt like a long day so I didn’t mind leaving
early.
Today was with Christine and I’m sitting in her office with her since there was nowhere else for
me to sit. Her medical assistants felt bad but I didn’t mind, all I needed was somewhere to put

my laptop and I'm good. It was pretty slow this morning so I had time to do my journal and
finish my projects. We were pretty slow in the afternoon, and a drug rep brought all of us a drink
from Starbucks so that was nice. One of the medical assistants ended up having to leave
yesterday so the afternoon went by even slower. Our last few patients took longer because they
kept wanting to talk to us and one of them ended up wanting to get botox so Christine was able
Today I was in Gray with Christine. I was kind of worried this morning because yesterday they
told us the AC in here wasn’t working so they had to leave early, and I get hot really easily so I
brought my portable AC with me just in case. But they ended up getting it fixed cause it felt fine
in here today. This morning we had a patient who was 15 years old and he had no one come with
him so Christine was about to tell him he had to come back later but all we were doing was
checking a moderate dysplastic nevus on his back so she went ahead and saw him. When a
patient has a mole that looks a little weird or darker than the others, we biopsy it. And they are
rated between mild, moderate, and severe. Mild is closer to a normal mole and severe is closer to
melanoma so for that patient to be 15 and have a moderate is kind of scary. It’s cool that when I
am in the rooms and Christine is talking about different medications and I am able to think of
what is wrong with the patient. I was able to do that today with a patient, she prescribed me
clindamycin which is a topical antibiotic. He had folliculitis on the back of his neck which is
common for men when they get their hair cut real short. I ended up leaving kind of early today
because I needed to go to Milledgeville to pick up my cap and gown and my cords but when I
got to campus the store that I needed to get my cap and gown at was closed so I will be going
tomorrow instead.
