Today as well as Thursday and Friday, I wasn’t with anyone so I came to just work on some of
my assignments. I could’ve done school work at home but I always do better when I get out of
the house to do school work. I had to do that when I lived in Milledgeville as well. I would go to
the library and rent a study room since I get distracted so easily. I ‘ve always associated my
house with somewhere that I can relax and plus I have 2 cats that always try to lay on my laptop
Today I was with Brooke, and it was a pretty steady day. Brooke is now 6 months pregnant and
she’s starting to show a lot throughout the day so a lot of patients are asking her if she’s got
another one on the way. Since I only see her once or twice a week it’s been so cool to see her
stomach grow each week. Anyways, when we were doing a skin check on a patient, I noticed
that she had some fungus on the back of her neck, which I didn't know was common to get in a
spot like that since it’s open to the air and not between the folds of the skin. I think my favorite
part about skin checks is when I see places on the patient first and I get to guess what it is. But
the type of fungus this patient had was called tinea versicolor, which is described as a fungal
infection on the skin that causes small discolored patches along the skin. Kind of as a way to
practice, I’ve been doing skin checks on my family and naming what I see on them. Oddly
enough I found the same type of fungal infection on my dads chest that the patient had today. I
was surprised because he didn’t even know it was there since it doesn’t itch or anything. He most
likely got it from working in the yard last weekend, getting hot and sweaty and not taking a

shower right when he got inside. There was also a patient who came in with something called
Schamberg’s disease on her lower leg. Brooke didn’t show a lot of concern about it so i don’t
think it’s anything that’s life threatening. It’s basically discoloration of the skin caused by
extravasation of the capillaries which allows the red blood cells to leak out into the skin. The red
blood cells then release iron and cause a rust like color to be visible on the skin.
Today I was with Brooke again, and it was a chill day. It was steady at some points and then we
had a period where there weren't many patients. The patient I remember the most from today was
a teenage girl who had plantar warts. She had already had them frozen and cut off but they were
very persistent and kept growing back. She had 3 of them, one on her big toe, one on her pinky
toe and one between her toes. It looked so uncomfortable because the one on her pinky toe stuck
out at least a quarter inch. Brooke said she wasn’t responding well to destructive methods so she
recommended they try an immunological approach. The one we use for warts is the MMR
vaccine that is injected directly in the wart 3 times, once a month. The way it works is by
injecting the vaccine which causes the immune system to recognize that there is a virus on the
skin that it has been letting stay there. So it promotes the immune system to recognize the virus
and fight it from the inside out. Since the warts are in the same area of the body, you only need
to inject one of them and the rest will follow. I remembered this patient more because when she
got the injection in her toe, she screamed so loud that her mom had to cover her mouth. I'm glad
we didn’t have any more patients back at the time because they probably would’ve been scared. I
don’t blame her for yelling though because the bottom of the foot is a very sensitive spot,
Today I was by myself again just doing school work. The room I usually sit in is quiet so there's
not much noise which helps me a lot. Up in the front there is the closet with all the samples we
get and when they get more samples in they just sit it in the closet instead of emptying them out
so I did that to take a little break from my school work. I like to do that cause I get to look at all
the products, and if I’m interested in any of them I get to take some home to try out so I’ve done
that pretty often. I ended up leaving a little early though because I had a stomach ache.
Today I was by myself again, so I finished my journal, and worked on my reflection paper. One
of Brooke’s medical assistants works here on Fridays in the same room as me since Brooke only
works Monday - Thursday. She works in biologics so she works a half day to catch up on
paperwork and gets all the supplies ready for monday when they are in Warner Robins. We
talked about our plans for the weekend and I told her about my job at TJ MAXX and what we
did during covid. I talked to her about applying here as well and she went and talked to one of
the assistant office managers to see if they have any positions open because I wanted to make
sure there were openings before I asked. The assistant office manager said she would talk to the
office manager since she isn’t sure what positions they have open, but she also said they should
be able to stick me somewhere while I get my prerequisites so hopefully I hear from them soon.
I usually leave at 3 on Fridays because Christine is the only one that has patients till 3, but since
she is out and everyone else leaves between 12-1 so I tried to finish some work before I left.
