than last, which was particularly slow. As my groups continue to have meetings, we are starting
to have more projects to work on. Because last Monday was Martin Luther King Day, we did not
have a staff meeting, making this Monday our first staff meeting. We began the staff meeting by
saying how we were feeling that day in relation to a form of weather. I said I was feeling like a
sunny day with a few clouds because I was still a bit tired. The meeting's purpose is to review the
progress that each group made the previous week. I am in three groups; wellness, social media,
and She Speaks. Our wellness group also was unable to meet the previous week because of MLK
day, so we did not have any updates. My social media group has been working on a meet the
staff post, by collecting a photo and brief description from each employee. She Speaks is the
main project I will be working on this semester. It takes place on International Women’s Day
and is a time for GCSU faculty women to speak on something they are passionate about. My
group for She Speaks did not make too much progress last week because our supervisor was
unable to attend our weekly meeting. We had a quick discussion after the meeting about reaching
out to faculty about speaking at the event and the beginning steps we need to be taking. We are
also planning to add a reception after the event so that attendees can speak to some of the
speakers about their passions. After our staff meeting, I met with my wellness group. This group
is made up of seven people, so we decided to split into two groups. My group is going to
continue to meet on Mondays and during these meetings I am responsible for taking notes during
discussion and posting it online, in case anyone misses the meeting or forgets something we
talked about. I am also in charge of social media for my group. On Tuesday, we had our intern
meeting. During the meeting we discussed the article readings from the previous week. The
articles were mostly for introductory purposes and discussed the expectations of women’s and
LGBT+ centers across the nations. It is upsetting to read about how underfunded most of these
centers are and how they are doing all they can for campuses with the little that they are
provided. On Wednesday, I have a social media meeting. In preparation for this meeting, I
created an infographic to post on Instagram for National Wear Red Day, February 3, 2023.
National Wear Red Day is for spreading awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention.
My mother is the manager of multiple Emory cardiology clinics, and she does something for Go
Red every year, which focuses on heart disease in women. I created an infographic for this, and I
am currently working on one for American Heart Month, which is the month of February. I
presented the infographic to my social media team during our meeting at 1:30 and it will be
posted on our Instagram story February 3, 2023. On Thursday, I had no meetings. I worked on
some personal assignments early in the day. I also began working on a Black History Month
Instagram post in addition to reading one of the articles in preparation for my intern meeting this
upcoming Tuesday. On Friday, I had a She Speaks meeting. This week we discussed potential
speakers for the event. I thought of two women in public health who would be great for this
event, Dr. Jarriel, and Dr. Griffin. I asked my roommate who is a graduated nursing major, who
are some professors that she thought would be best for speaking at She Speaks. She suggested
Dr. Warren and Dr. Queen. I will also be reaching out to all four of these women in the
upcoming week. I continued to work on some Instagram posts throughout the day on Friday as
well. This week has been mostly focused on brainstorming for upcoming events. So far
everything is going very well, and I am looking forward to sharing more of my ideas for the She
Speaks event.
