The week of January 16th was the first true week of my internship.

Last week we did not

meet until Friday, which was our introductory meeting. This week has been slow, as we have just

been getting acclimated to our positions. During a normal week, I would have two meetings on

Monday’s, a staff meeting and a meeting with my wellness group. However, because of MLK

day we did not meet this week. On Tuesday, we did not have much to do before our meeting at

2:30, so I spent some time looking around the workspace. I spend a lot of time at the front desk

work area, where there is a library filled with books regarding feminism, IPV (Intimate Partner

Violence), sexuality, and many m ore exciting topics. Our 2:30 meeting on Tuesday was for

interns only and we discussed what our role would be here at the Women’s center and what is

expected of us. Every week we are assigned to read articles regarding a specific topic that we

will discuss in our next intern meeting. Some of the articles that I have read for this week so far

are about women’s centers across the globe and the impact they have had on people. On

Wednesday, I met with my social media group in which we discussed what content we think

needs to be added to our Instagram and Facebook pages. We produced some great ideas as to

how to draw more people to look at our pages. Thursday was a slow day, with no meetings. The

slower days have given me a chance to explore jobs for my future and apply for a few. Friday

was also slow; however, I had one meeting at 1pm. The meeting was for my She Speaks group in

which we discussed what the event is and some ideas as to how we are going to split up the

work. While this week has been uneventful, I have enjoyed getting to know other staff members

through our meetings and I have had lots of time to plan out my ideas for this semester. I am

looking forward to the upcoming projects we have planned and sharing my ideas with the team!
