We
discussed the areas I have excelled in and the areas I need to work on. She rated me as average
which I would say is fair. I have some trouble making suggestions and sharing my ideas here
because everyone is so smart and already such good friends. I told her I would work on speaking
up. We both agreed that I have done a great job of helping my groups with any tasks necessary to
get a project completed. Shortly after this, we had our weekly staff meeting. The meeting was
decently short, as not too many changes had been made since the previous week. We discussed a
few upcoming events, as well as the trivia event that our community group put on last week for
Women’s History Month. After the meeting we had an employee lunch at the MAX. This was a
wonderful opportunity to talk to some coworkers that I had yet to get to know. Additionally, I
had not had the MAX since my freshman year, so this was exciting! After lunch, I met with my
wellness groups. We decided to combine the two events that we discussed last week, the sip and
paint and the study session. We had to combine them because there are so many other events
going on during March between our center and others. Also, spring break has made it difficult to
plan events. We also finalized our Instagram post idea and submitted it to our supervisor. This
week, I am working on a draft email for those who nominate someone and those who are
nominated.
On Tuesday, I had my weekly intern meeting. I worked on speaking up more during the
discussion and participated a few times. The conversation was about feminist leadership. We
discussed what it means to be a feminist leader and how it is different from just a regular leader.
We also shared what we think the center could do better to be more like feminist leaders. All the
new interns agreed that many people on campus do not know about the women’s center and that
we need to market ourselves to other groups more often, like sororities and fraternities. We also
agreed that coming here is very intimidating but if we were to do a little better marketing, we
think people would feel more comfortable coming here. Overall, it was a very productive
meeting. After the meeting, I worked on some last touches for our She Speaks event that
happened the next day. I wrote a brief introduction paragraph for each speaker, summarizing
On Wednesday, I worked on creating a sign-in sheet for She Speaks. The rest of the day
was slow until about 4. Meg and I brought an extra folding table over to the A&S auditorium and
some bottled water for the speakers. I helped Melissa set up her laptop to record the event as a
Zoom meeting. In addition, I also recorded everyone’s speech as a voice memo on my phone just
in case something went wrong with the Zoom recording. I was responsible for taking notes on
each speaker, which I will attach to my journal submission this week. Everyone’s speeches were
amazing and applied to all distinct aspects of being a woman. My personal favorite was Ms.
Ashley Copeland’s about the importance of playing as an adult. She included a fun activity that
got everyone in the crowd to stand up and act like their favorite animal. Adults often forget how
much fun playing can be because of our busy schedules, but it is something I am going to try to
incorporate into my life more often. After the event, we all headed over to the library for a
passionate about and it made me happy to hear about these women’s passions. I do wish that
there was more of a turnout because I think everyone could have benefitted from the event.
Thursday and Friday were slow days. On Thursday, I worked on some more job
applications and began looking for a place to live during the summer. On Friday, I continued my
search and ended the week by hanging out with some other co-workers before I left.
