Weekly Journal Entry 8

On Monday, I worked on finishing up the Cardiff updates to go back further than the past

year. It’s a great idea for the spreadsheet to reflect everything we’ve received. On Tuesday, I

went to the weekly BOLD check-in. I always like these meetings because they are an opportunity

to get help from the other team members as well as hear about some of the projects that they are

working on. We also took this opportunity to discuss some points that we brought up at a

previous meeting. We worked on providing feedback on a survey that UGA created, but we were

waiting to hear back from a team member about their opinion because they had more experience

with the requirements for formatting the survey. I also learned that next week we have a library

meeting, and there’s a lady there who also studied public health and French, so it will be

interesting to talk with her and maybe get some insight on the field.

On Wednesday, I read a few articles that one of my coworkers sent out. He sends out a

lot of information often, but it is super helpful in keeping up to date on things happening related

to injury prevention and overall good sources for me to learn more about the topics I work on.

On Thursday, I attended an information session for Reading2Connect. The organization talked

about their library program, which I helped work on. They specifically talked about the

specialized library books that are age- and dementia-friendly. They are designed for older adults

to be able to comprehend. These books are super cool because they are printed on washable, tear-

resistant paper, they’re available in multiple languages, and they’re available as paper copy

books, eBooks, and video books. I was also able to send out the Cardiff data updates to everyone

to update them on the new tracking for the data we’ve received.

On Friday, I worked on updating the Cardiff data since we received new reports on the

first day of the month. I spent the day data-cleaning and organizing the information into a

condensed form that’s easy to understand. Although I only had to go through a few data sets,

each takes a while because I have to make sure that none of the data gets messed up. I also have

to reorganize how the data is set up and map the geographical location of the incidents, which

can take a while. I also had to update our records on how much data we received, but it didn’t

take long because I was the one who created the spreadsheet.
