Overall, this was a really good week, and I was able to make a good amount of progress
on my overall project. On Monday I began sorting my stakeholders by placing them into two
groups: those who had attended the informational stakeholder meeting and those who were
unable to. I started drafting and then sent a recap email to those who had been there. I also began
drafting a separate email, with much more information, to be sent to those who were unable to
attend. On Tuesday I sent the other email for those who could not make it to the informational
meeting. Although they could not make the meeting their input and participation is still
incredibly important to me, so it is important that I keep in contact with them. I let them know
that if they want to meet one-on-one when their schedules allow that I would be able to review
with them what we had discussed at the meeting and what the next steps are. I also began
On Wednesday I added and designed my survey on Qualtrics. This was my first time
creating and designing my own survey on Qualtrics, so I was excited to be able to learn how to
use this resource. I am familiar with survey monkey but being taught how to use Qualtrics will
be very useful going forward. I also had the opportunity to assist with a short community
development and civic encouragement event with GMC middle school. Through facilitating
various activities and discussion we were encouraging students to be active community members
and helpful to their neighbors. On Thursday I met with my supervisor to discuss my survey and
next steps. We went over my survey in Qualtrics to see how it flowed and practiced doing an
interview with supervisor so that I could start getting comfortable with the questions and
phrasing. We also reviewed the IRB application process as we are hoping to get IRB approval so
that we could potentially publish the data that we do collect. On Friday, I worked on adding
some logics into my survey so that it would be flow better. I then reviewed my survey once more
to make sure it would appear correctly and that it flowed when I would offer it over the phone. I
also began planning out the scheduling for the interviews that I will be conducting with these
Lessons Learned
The big thing I learned this week was how to use Qualtrics, and I feel as if learning to use
this will be beneficial throughout graduate school and other career endeavors. Being able to learn
various resources that I will encounter after graduation, while I am still in school has been and
will be incredibly beneficial. Also being able to work with the local middle schoolers on
community engagement was very eye opening into concept of getting all aspects of the
