Chapter 2

METHOD

Presented in this chapter were the discussion on the research

design, research respondent, research locale, research instrument, data

collection and statistical tools.

Research Design

This study utilized the non-experiential descriptive research

design. Creswell (2012) explained that research design is the specific

method of a researcher that sets the procedure for collecting, analyzing,

interpreting and reporting data in research studies. It is the overall plan

for connecting the conceptual research problems. In other words, the

research design sets the procedure on the required data, the methods to

be applied to collect and analyze this data, and how all of this is going to

answer the research question (Anderson, 2012). Descriptive design

provides a snapshot of the current state of affairs. This design according

to Arikunto (2007) is intended to gather some information regarding the

trend found in the field. It means that there is no administration and

control in this kind of research. In this study, the statistical finding of the

main variable will be described appropriately as baseline data in the

formulation of the intervention program based from the areas of concern

for improvement.

Research Respondents

The respondent of the study were the fifty (50) male and fifty

(50) female students with the total of 100 BPE students. Simple

random sampling techniques were utilized. The reason for accurately

calculating the required sample size obtaining statistically significant of

the results and ensuring that the research resources is efficiently to

use the virtual survey questionnaire through Google form conducting

motor skills learning expansion of BPE student’s basis for

enhancement program. More importantly, the researchers’

investigators are not only determining the appropriate inclusion criteria

when designing a study, but also to evaluate the impact of those

decisions for validity of the study results in the population has an equal

chance for being included in the survey.

Research Locale

The study was conducted to one of the higher institutions in

Davao City. This academic institution has been growing students'

potentials, learning skills, and intellectual capability for around 21 years.

Shown in the Figure 2. is the Map of the Republic of the Philippines

showing the location of the St. John Paul II College of Davao.

Research Instrument

A survey questionnaire was used in the information gathering that this

study desired to achieve. The questionnaire in this study was modified and for

validation. The survey questionnaire was formulated by the researchers

through the assistance of their research adviser. There were fifteen (15)

questions in the main variable. There was only one set of survey

questionnaires used to collect data from respondents. The researcher will

honor the fidelity of undergoing the research tool from face validity explained

how well the collected data covers the actual area of investigation to meet the

requirements of validity and reliability of the research instrument.

In this study, Five point likert’s scale was be used for it is one of the

most commonly used scales. To assess the level of dance coaching skill, the

following scales was utilized:

Data Collection

The researcher arranged appointments to her adviser for consultation in

the conceptualization of the research framework. Upon approval, the adapted

survey questionnaire was organized and submitted to panel of examiners for

content validation. In addition, the researcher wrote a letter address to the

Program Head of College of Human Kinetics to conduct survey to all BPE

students. Moreover, due to COVID-19 pandemic the researcher distributed the

survey questionnaire thorough online Google form in observance of IATF

protocol to prevent face-face interaction. Further, the respondents given the

assurance that in adherence to RA 10173 or otherwise called Data Privacy Act

of 2012, all information that they provided were treated with the utmost

confidentiality and that information that may be used to identify them would not

in any way be included in the treatment and presentation of data. Hereafter, the

researcher retrieved the survey questionnaire or responses after the

respondents answered all the items stipulated in the tool. Tabulation of data

was done for statistical treatment. Statistical results was be analyzed

meticulously and interpreted with professional prudence and establish

meaningful findings, conclusions and recommendations.

Statistical Tools

To address the fundamental objective of the study, the following

statistical tools was used for data treatment:

Mean and Standard Deviation- Was used to determine the level of active

living style of students during pandemic of college.
