EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN

Each Contractor shall be responsible for providing SIVUTHUMLILO TRADING with an accurate head
count of the total number of employees accounted for and unaccounted for. SIVUTHUMLILO
TRADING Site Agent, foreman and Safety officer, will be responsible for reporting all information to
the Site Safety Coordinator.

Action in event of injury

Should an injury occur the employee/ employees will immediately:

1. Assess the severity of the injury. Assess whether the person/persons injured can be
attended to by the first aider and whether or not, emergency services must be called
assistance.
2. The first aid kit will be on each respectable site to attend to minor injuries
3. A full time Safety office/ assistant will be on site to attend all incidents. All incidents must be
reported to and recorded by the Safety Officer on site with a full report of the incident
compiled by him/her, no matter the size/severity of the incident
4. Minor injuries can be attended to on site or at the site office by a qualified person on site,
these persons will be available during working hours and employees will be made aware of
those who are competent to do so during the site induction process

Action in the event of fire

In the event of fire the person discovering the fire will:

1. Assess the severity of the fire. Assess whether the fire can be extinguished quickly or
contained with the immediately available resources e.g. extinguisher, sand or water. If the
assessment indicates that this is not possible vacate the area while shouting “FIRE”,
repeatedly or activate the fire alarm.
2. Report to the mustering point which will be at the laydown area and inform the responsible
person of the source and location of fire
3. The responsible person will perform a roll-call to establish who is missing. This will be
reported to the head of the emergency services.
4. The emergency services will be assisted by any means possible.

Actions in the means of evacuation

Should the evacuation alarm be sounded all employees will immediately

1. Isolate all equipment in use immediately.


2. Evacuate the area closing all doors while leaving.
3. Walk in a fast but controlled manner. DO NOT RUN.
4. Assist fellow employees to evacuate where necessary.
5. Gather at the mustering point, which will be the lay-down area.
6. Follow any instruction given by the responsible person and the emergency services
