Simple Present Tense

Active Voice: V1 (က, သည်)

Passive Voice: am, is, are + V3 (ကို, အား)

1. My father reads a newspaper every day.


(အဖေက သတင်းစာကို နေ့တိုင်းဖတ်တယ်။)

A newspaper is read by my father every day.


(သတင်းစာကို အဖေက နေ့တိုင်းဖတ်တယ်။)

2. May plays the piano.


The piano is played by May.
3. Farmers grow paddy in the rainy season.
Paddy is grown by farmers in the rainy season.
Simple Past Tense
Active Voice V2
Passive Voice was, were + V3
1. May watched TV yesterday. TV was watched by May.
2. My cat caught a mouse last night.
A mouse was caught by my cat last night.
3. Mary met her old friend at a restaurant this morning.
Her old friend was met at a restaurant by Mary this morning.
4. The engineers built a bridge across the river in 2013.
A bridge was built across the river by the engineers in 2013.
5. My father bought some vegetables at a market yesterday morning.
Some vegetables were bought at a market by my father yesterday morning.

Present Continuous Tense

Active Voice am,is,are + Ving

Passive Voice am,is,are + being + V3

1. My mother is making breakfast in the kitchen at this moment.


Breakfast is being made in the kitchen by my mother at this moment.
2. The children are reciting poems happily under the tree at present.
Poems are being happily recited under the tree by the children at present.
3. Father is washing the car thoroughly in the garage now.
The car is being thoroughly washed in the garage by father now.
Past Continuous Tense
Active Voice was, were + Ving
Passive Voice was, were + being + V3
1. Thura was reading a novel at this time yesterday.
A novel was being read by Thura at this time yesterday.
2. She was writing an essay when her aunt called her.
An essay was being written by her when her aunt called her.
3. While my brother was painting the wall, I was cleaning the kitchen.
While the wall was being painted by my brother, the kitchen was being cleaned by me.
Present Perfect Tense
Active Voice: has, have + V3
Passive Voice: has, have + been + V3
1. The visitors have just finished lunch.
Lunch has just been finished by the visitors.
2. Bo Bo has bought a car recently.
A car has been bought by Bo Bo recently.
3. I have known them for three years.
They have been known for three years.

Past Perfect Tense

Active Voice: had + V 3

Passive Voice: had + been + V3

1. When the lights went out, they had not cooked dinner.
When the light went out, dinner had not been cooked.
2. When father returned, I had already set the dinning table.
When father returned, the dinning table had already been set.
3. Before she took the test, she had already revised her school lessons.
Before she took the test, her school lessons had already been revised.
Simple future tense
Active Voice: will + V1
Passive Voice: will + be + V3
1. When she comes here, I will help her.
When she comes here, she will be helped.
2. Until she knows the answer, she will study the sums.
Until she knows the answer, the sums will be studied.
3. If you study your school lessons harder than now, I will continue to support you.
If your school lessons are studied harder than now, I will continue to support you.
