Abstract-
Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is increasingly being utilized in asphalt mixtures to promote
sustainability in pavement construction. However, challenges such as reduced stiffness,
durability, and moisture susceptibility often accompany the use of RAP materials. Silica fume, a
byproduct of silicon metal production, has been proposed as a potential additive to improve the
performance of RAP mixtures due to its pozzolanic properties and ability to enhance binder-
aggregate interactions. This laboratory investigation aims to comprehensively evaluate the
impact of silica fume on the properties of RAP materials and focuses on assessing the impact of
silica fume on RAP material when incorporated into the surface layer of cement concrete
pavement. Controlled laboratory experiments will be conducted to evaluate various mix designs
containing different proportions of RAP and silica fume. Mechanical properties such as
compressive strength, flexural strength, and microscopic characteristics will be examined to
quantify the effects of silica fume on the performance of RAP in cement concrete pavement.
