Abstract-
Construction activities play a significant role in shaping urban landscapes, but they also have
substantial impacts on traffic flow and congestion, particularly in densely populated areas
like Bangalore. This study investigates the effects of construction zones on traffic patterns
and congestion in the Bangalore urban area. Through a combination of field observations and
traffic data analysis the study examines the spatial and temporal dynamics of traffic
congestion caused by construction activities. Factors such as road capacity reduction, lane
closures, detours, and work hours are analyzed to understand their influence on traffic flow
and congestion levels. Additionally, the study explores potential mitigation strategies to
alleviate the adverse effects of construction zones on traffic, including optimized scheduling,
alternative routes, and enhanced communication strategies. The findings of this research
provide valuable insights for urban planners, policymakers, and transportation authorities to
better manage construction-related traffic impacts and improve overall mobility in Bangalore
and similar urban areas.

Key words—construction work zones, congestion levels , optimised scheduling.
