There are two main types of questions in English: WH-questions and Yes/No questions.
1- WH- Questions
WH-questions are questions starting with WH-words including: what, when, where, who, whom,
which, whose, why and how. Question words are used to ask about specific qualities, times, place,
people and so on. Below is a list of question words and example sentences:
1- with an auxiliary
Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs (not main verbs). Common auxiliary verbs include be, do, have.
Others are will, shall, would, can, could, must, should, may, might, etc.
2- Yes/No Questions
Yes/ No questions are also called closed questions because there are only two possible responses:
Yes or No. When forming a Yes / No question, it must include one of these verbs: BE, DO, HAVE, or
modal verbs (must – should – can – could …). It is impossible to ask a Yes / No question without one
of these verbs.
