Globalization Activity # 3:

A. Comprehension Questions:
1. In what specific ways does globalization affect communication? Cite
three 3 specific ways and expound.
Globalization has a significant impact on communication, influencing the
way we interact and work across borders.
Here are three specific ways in which globalization affects communication:
Since globalization brought about advancements in communication
technologies that have revolutionized the way we connect with others
across the globe. For example, Social media platforms such as Facebook,
and Instagram originated in the US and TikTok that was created by the
Chinese Company. It allows people to connect, share information, and
engage in conversations with individuals from different parts of the world
instantly.
Also, because of Globalization there’s cultural exchange or sharing of
ideas, values, and perspectives. For example, through social media
platforms such as TikTok, individuals can follow and interact with people
from different cultures, learning about their customs, traditions, and ways of
life. This cultural exchange enhances communication by promoting
understanding, empathy, and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
Lastly, Globalization has highlighted the importance of language diversity in
effective communication. For example, those hospitality industries that
cater international tourists, they recognize the need for multilingual
communication to cater to diverse markets. Language translation services,
such as Google Translate, enable individuals to communicate across
language barriers and understand content in different languages.
2. What are the things that people do now that could not be done before
globalization? Provide four (4) and explain briefly
● Work from home/ Digital nomad: People can now work for companies
located in different countries without being physically present in an
office such as the freelancers here in the Philippines.
● Online Shopping: Globalization has revolutionized the way people
shop. With the rise of e-commerce platforms and global shipping
networks, such as Shopee and Lazada, individuals can now purchase
products from anywhere in the world and have them delivered to their
doorstep. This accessibility and convenience were not as readily
available before globalization.
● Global Travel and Tourism: Traveling to different parts of the world
has become more accessible and affordable due to globalization
such as international flights and high-speed trains, along with
simplified visa processes, have made it easier for people to explore
different countries, experience diverse cultures, and engage in global
tourism.
● Instant Communication: With the advancement of technology and
globalization, people can now communicate instantly with others
around the world. Through platforms like email, social media, and
video calls, individuals can connect and exchange information in real-
time, breaking down geographical barriers and enabling immediate
global communication.
3. Are the effects of globalization on communication positive or negative?
Support your answers with five (5) concrete examples.
● The effects of globalization on communication can be viewed from
both positive and negative perspective
The 5 positive effects of globalization are:
1. Increased connectivity: As i said above globalization has greatly
fostered easier communication where even if you're on the
opposites of the globe communication is still possible
2. Cultural exchange: globalization also made cultural exchange
possible where people enjoy different types of cultural films
such as K Drama, Anime of Japan, Hollywood signature
movies. fostering cross-cultural understanding and
appreciation.
3. Access to information: In my opinion is one of the greatest
upsides of globalization because it allows the people to be
informed with global issues and events.
4. Enhanced collaboration: Globalization has enabled easier
collaboration between individuals, organizations, and
governments across borders, leading to innovation and
progress in various fields.
5. Global Networking Opportunities:global networking enhances
career prospects, facilitates partnerships, and enables the
exchange of expertise and best practices across border.
platforms like professional social networks and online forums,
people can connect with others from different parts of the world,
fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
The 5 negative effects of globalization are:
1. Labor Exploitation: Globalization has led to the outsourcing of
labor to countries with lower labor costs, where workers may be
subjected to poor working conditions, low wages, and limited
labor rights
2. Spread of misinformation: As i said above because of the
instantaneous communication became widespread.
misinformation also became more prominent too
3. Language Loss: globalization also diminishes cultural heritage
and diversity, impacting communication within and between
communities.
4. Privacy Concerns: As individuals share personal information
and engage in online interactions, they may unknowingly
expose themselves to data breaches, cyberattacks, and
invasive surveillance practices
5. Wage Disparities: Globalization has widened the gap between
rich and poor, both within and between countries. While
multinational corporations profit from global market expansion,
workers at the bottom of the supply chain often receive minimal
wages and lack access to essential benefits such as healthcare
and social security.
B. Make your own (original) handmade or computer-assisted
caricature/poster about the impact of globalization on communication.
Then, explain your work in two paragraphs.

In my poster, there's a big wave like a monster called "Globalization

Exploitation." It shows how globalization can be bad. For example, some
companies move their factories to places where workers are paid less and
treated badly. Also, industries like mining and farming sometimes only care
about making money quickly, even if it hurts the environment. They cut
down forests, make pollution, and animals lose their homes. This shows
how globalization can hurt people and the planet.

But, there's also a good side to globalization. It helps us all stay connected
and makes the world richer. With technology, we can talk to anyone,
anywhere. This brings people together and helps economies grow. Even
though there are problems, like bad jobs and pollution, globalization can
also make life better for many people around the world.
