INTERN[AL RULES AND REGULATIONS


Introduction
The rules spelled out in this document are meant to regulate student life at HIMS in order to
transform them into the assiduous and creative professionals that the school aims at. They
regulate dressing and general conduct on campus and in some cases off campus where the
interest of HIMS is at stake.

Part 1: DRESS CODE


Section 1: General Prescription for all students
1) Dressing should be characterised by neatness, cleanliness and modesty, regardless of any
cultural influence or style.
2) Dressing should reflect the dignity of the occasion for which it is worn.
3) Dressing that promotes or advertises the use of drugs, cigarettes or any illegal substance
is prohibited.
a) Dirty and faded clothing as well as ripped jeans are discouraged.
5) Clothing that has the potential to incite students or undermine discipline and good order
at HIMS premises is prohibited.
6) Fez caps and flamboyant head gears of any kind are not encouraged on campus except
otherwise authorised by the school administration or for medical or religious reasons.
7) Wearing of all sorts of slippers as footwear is prohibited, except for medical reasons.
8) Jewellery and cosmetics may be used to enhance appearance, but must not draw unusual
affention of people.
9) Sun glasses shall not be worn for classes or lectures unless on a medical doctor's advice.
10) AiI HIMS students MUST wear the school POLO-SHIRT every Wednesday

Section 2: Dress Prescriptions for Ladies


1) The following shall be prohibited on HIMS' campus:
a. Low cut blouses that expose the stomach; backless shirts, blouses or dresses that
reveal breasts;
b. Transparent and/or see-through materials;
c. Skirts that reveal underclothing;
d. Clothing that is profane in character or sexually suggestive; and
e. Multiple ear rings or nose rings and studs.
2) Extreme and aggressive hair colours are not allowed.
Section 3: Dress Prescriptions for Men
1) Trousers must be fitted at the waist or upper hip, totally covering undergarments.
Saggingtrousers or shorts are not encouraged.
2) Earrings for men are stronglydiscouraged.
3) Unkempt hair is prohibited.

Section 4: Dresses for Ceremonial Occasions and excursions:


1) All HIMS students shall appear in their official wear or prescribed attire at the
following ceremonies:
a. Matriculation.
b. Project or industrial attachment defence and presentations; and
c. National celebrations in which HIMS is taking part.
2) For Excursions and educational trips, all students shall dress in their HIMS polo
shirts, except otherwise decided by the school administration

Part2: GENERAL CONDUCT


Section 5: Making and Receiving Calls:
1) Telephone calls are prohibited in the classroom during lecture hours.
2) Students are required to put their phones on silence during classes.
3) Any student who breaches section 5 sub 1 and 2 above shall have his/her phone
confiscated for 72 hours and handed immediately to the Director of Administration and
Control (DAC) for safe keePing.

Section 6: Instruments
A11 instruments deemed dangerous, such as firearms, cutlasses, spears, lances, bows and arrows,
knives, scissors, blades, sharp objects and all other objects that can harm a person, shall not be
allowed on campus.

Section 7: Attendance
1) Students shall attend, at least 7Ao/o of their classes to qualiff for end of semester
examination.
2) All students are encouraged to attend classes from the start to the end of any given
semester. Students shall not be allowed into class after fifteen minutes from the start.
3) Attendance in class shall be signed in the class register during every class. Any student
who signs the register in advance or whose signature is appended by a friend or classmate
shall be sanctioned. The accomplice(s) shall also suffer the same sanction.
4) The attendance register shall be handled by the course delegate or, in his absence, his
assistant. The delegate and or his assistant shall ensure that every student present signs
the register.
s) Any student who fails to sign the register shall be considered to be absent.
I Section 8: Conduct of Examinations
The following shall govern the conduct of examinations at HIMS:
1) Students must acquaint themselves with the instructions governing examination.
2) Candidates arriving after 30 minutes when the examination has started shall not be
admitted into the examination hall.
3) Candidates are also advised to bring with them into the examination hall, all necessary
writing materials permitted by the examination regulations
4) Candidates must keep to the sitting arrangements prepared for the examination. Chairs
arranged in examination halls shall not, under any circumstances, be removed by any
candidate.
5) Bags, phones, smart watches, head or earphones shall NOT BE ALLOWED in the
examination hall.

Section 9: Discipline
1) HIMS students shall exercise the highest possible level of discipline.
2) Fighting, insults, bullying, shouting at and or the use of uncouth language against another
student, lecturer, visitor or any other staff member aro prohibited.
3) Students who contravene section 9 (2) above shall be summoned to the Disciplinary
Council where appropriate sanctions shall be meted out.
4) Examination malpractice is totally proscribed at HIMS. Defaulters shall be severely
punished. Sanctions shall include cancellation of examination paper, suspension andlor
dismissal.
s) No crime shall be tolerated on campus or off campus. Any criminal conduct that cannot
be adequately handled by the Disciplinary Council shall be handed over to the
appropriate j udicial authorities.

Section 10: Business on Campus


HIMS, as a business school, encourages her students to take up private initiatives in business to
gain experience and have an income. However, if such businesses must be carried out on
campus, the interested person shall ensure that such transactions:
1) Do not disturb the normal functioning of lectures; and
2) Must be done to avoid harm on other students.

All new students, irrespective of level, shall participate in the Matriculation rites to be held in
November in their School Official Attire. For further enquiries, contact the Student Affairs
