uses numbers and statistics in presenting
the results?
A. Objective
B. Numerical Data
C. Structured Research Instruments

questions are well-defined and
stated in advance for which objective
answers are sought?

B. Future Outcomes
C. Large Sample Size
D. Clearly defined research questions
3. Which is an advantage of quantitative
research?

A. The use of statistics

B. The number of respondents
C. The cost/expenses of researchers
D. The ability of the respondents to share
and elaborate information.
4. Which is a disadvantage of conducting
quantitative research?

A. The study is replicable.

B. The sample size is large.
C. The researcher is objective.
D. The data is statistically accurate.
The researchers want to conduct a study on the
effectiveness of the self-learning activity box
(S-LAB) in enhancing the learning competencies
of the Grade 10 students in Chemistry during the
online classes. The goal of the paper is to provide
the students with hands-on activities during
online distance learning and measure its impact
on the learning and understanding of the
students.
5. Which of the following statements is best to be included in discussing
the existing conditions in the students’ learning process relative to the
topic presented above?

A. Kitchen-based experiments became optional since it was discovered

that some students would be unable to afford the materials.
B. The goal of the S-LAB is to give the students the same experience and
learning they should be getting while conducting experiments inside the
laboratory.
C. Doing experiments alone, having limited materials, and doing it in an
inappropriate place, is a huge factor for the activities and experiments to
be unsuccessful.
D. The idea of the self-learning activity box anchors on the philosophy and
teachings of John Dewey about learning by doing indicating that the best
way to learn things is by having experiences.
6. Which of the following statements is best to be included in discussing the concepts and
ideas related to the topic presented above that indicates clarification of important
terminologies?
A. There was an article that suggested giving out a Science toolbox to students that contains
all the necessary materials they needed in the experiments (Caruana, Salzmann & Sella,
2020).
B. This idea of the self-learning activity box anchors on the philosophy and teachings of John
Dewey about learning by doing indicating that the best way to learn things is by having
experiences.
C. Modules may have these activities written on them but not all students are able to do them
properly or correctly. They sometimes resort to just watching the experiments online (via
YouTube or Facebook) just to grasp the idea of the subject. This is the problem that the
researchers would like to address.
D. Even if the learners are at home or without the guidance of their teachers, they should still
gain knowledge and learn all the competencies and can learn through hands-on experience.
Using the concept of a self-learning module, the researchers developed a self-learning activity
box that contains all of the materials needed for the entire quarter, ensuring that students
are well-equipped when completing all of the Science SLM activities.
[1] One of the challenges observed and experienced by the researchers is the lack of teaching hours
because of the training and immersion of the grade 12 technical-vocational-livelihood
specializations (TVL) students. [2] In the current curriculum, students need to attend the training
for 40 days (DepEd Order 033, 2018). [3] Aside from such 2-month training, students also have
another 80-hour (10 days) Work Immersion Subject. [4] Such training affects the regular class
schedule of teachers and students in their respective subjects. [5] It is reasonable for the students
to attend training, yet they still need to make time for academic lessons. [6] Concerned teachers
must make sure that students could catch up to the lessons even they are attentive in the training.
[7] With this, the researchers created a learning module for Practical Research 2 that can be
utilized by the said TVL students. [8] Learning module serves as the main source of knowledge and
idea about the lesson. [9] It guides both teachers and learners through its content including its
activities. [10] As Sadiq and Zamir (2014) suggested in their experimental study, the modular
approach should be widely used at various levels of education. [11] Also, in a case study conducted
by Reddy (n.d.) on the importance of course module in the academic performance of students,
research findings show that course module is useful academically up
to some level in improving the standards of students.
