Assignment Brief:

Assignment title Assignment 5 Testing Engineering Materials

Vocational Scenario or Context:

In engineering, understanding how materials degrade because of its environment or due to mechanical
forces is very important. This assignment explores how materials fail.

Task 1.
You need to undertake at least 1 destructive test and 1 non-destructive test on two materials,
one metallic and one non-metallic.
Describe how the tests are carried out and what information can be obtained. Assess how one destructive
and one non-destructive test procedure produces useful results. For the tensile test calculate the Yield
Strength, Ultimate Tensile Strength and Modulus of Elasticity. Evaluate the results from your tests for at
least one type of material. Compare the results you obtained with others in your class and with accepted
values from reference books and websites. Do the results match? Explain reasons why they might not.
Evaluate your results.

Checklist of evidence required:

A word-processed report that includes evidence of your calculations/findings on your tests

A signed copy of your observation record.

Submission Guidelines

A word-processed version of this assignment along with a signed copy of this brief must be submitted to the Turnitin drop
box by the submission deadline. There is no need to produce a hard copy.
