The proposed study will provide the complete framework of parental separation on optimism, emotional
intimacy and psychological wellbeing among younger adults. All these variables will be studied
systematically and collectively because these variables are interacting with each other. Parental
separation is living in a household that does not include both parents which includes birth into single
parent households (K Karhina, 2023). The second major variable optimism is a positive orientation
toward the future. Optimists are people who have the habitual tendency to expect positive future
outcomes even when difficulties arise (Scheier and Carver, 1992). The third variable emotional intimacy
is a relationships characterized by reciprocal feelings of trust, emotional closeness, and open
communication of thoughts and feelings (Timmerman, 1991). Whereas the fourth variable psychological
wellbeing is the subjective understanding of positive psychological states such as happiness, life
satisfaction, and a sense of purpose (Dhanabhakyam & Sarath, 2023). Previous research will show a
negative correlation between parental separation and optimism (John Bowlby, 1969). Parental separation
had negative correlations with emotional intimacy (Mullet & Stolberg, 2002) and parental separation had
The current study will be conducted on a sample of (N=300) younger adults (n=150 women, n=150 men)
age range of the sample will be (18 to 26) years. The sample will be conducted using non probability
convenient sampling from different areas of Sargodha. 20- items Children’s separation anxiety scale
CSAS (α=0.83; Méndez, X., Espada, J. P., Orgilés, M., Llavona, L. M., & García-Fernández, J. M, 2014)
on a 5-point Likert scale will be used to assess parental separation; 9 items The Optimism scale (α=0.84;
Pedrosa et al, 2015) with 5-point Likert scale, will be used to measure the optimism; 5-items The
Emotional Intimacy Scale EIS (α=0.85; Sinclair & Dowdy, 2006) with 5-point Likert scale, will be used
to assess emotional intimacy; and 42-items Psychological Wellbeing Scale PWB, (α=0.86 to 0.93,
Ryff,1989) with 6-point Likert scale.
