Spoken Tutorial

About: -

Spoken Tutorial is a multi-award winning educational content portal. Here one can learn various
Free and Open Source Software all by oneself. Our self-paced, multi-lingual courses ensure that
anybody with a computer and a desire for learning can learn from any place, at any time and in a
language of their choice.

Spoken Tutorial was established at IIT Bombay with the funding from the Ministry of Education
(previously Ministry of Human Resource Development). The use of spoken tutorials to
popularize software learning and its use will be coordinated through this website.

Our courses are simple and easy to follow even for a beginner but they also meet the growing
needs of the learner. Our engaging digital content ensures that learning happens at all levels -
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. Our content mandates side-by-side practice thereby ensuring
that learners are actively learning. Many of the software taught, are used in various disciplines
of Engineering, pure Sciences and several other Under-Grad and Post-Grad studies, and can be
extended to Commerce, Arts and Management streams as well.

Alongside these, there are some courses relevant at School level, too, which help school students
to visualize difficult concepts of Math and Science. These can also be used by Teachers to
prepare lesson plans, explain abstract concepts and give digital assignments to students.

The learning can happen in an organized manner as well. Faculty in institutes can organize their
batch of students into groups, who will learn a particular software course for an entire semester If
the academic timetable permits, then a single student can learn up to 3 different ST courses in
one semester during the designated academic Lab hours.

End-of-Course online tests and certificates are available for those who wish to test their expertise
in particular software. These certificates give an edge to students during placement by
increasing their employability potential. For more details, please write to contact [at] spoken-

Objectives:-

Skill Development: These courses aim to develop practical skills among engineering students in specific
software tools, programming languages, or technical concepts relevant to their field of study. By
providing hands-on training, students gain proficiency in using these tools effectively.

Industry Relevance: Many Spoken Tutorial courses are designed in collaboration with industry experts
to ensure that the content remains relevant to current industry standards and requirements. This helps
bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations, making students more employable.

Accessible Learning: Spoken Tutorials typically offer self-paced learning modules with audio-visual
aids, making learning accessible to students with diverse learning styles and backgrounds. This
accessibility ensures that more students can benefit from the courses, regardless of their prior knowledge
or experience.

Certification and Recognition: By completing Spoken Tutorial courses and earning certifications,
students receive formal recognition of their skills and achievements. These certifications can enhance
their resumes and increase their chances of securing internships, job placements, or further academic
opportunities.

Outcomes:-

The trainings started in July 2011. Anand International College of Engineering, Jaipur registered
as Nodal Centre in year 2017. Institute has organized more than 100 courses and more than
2000 students has got benefitted. To date, around 5819689 students and teachers from all states
of India have taken this Software training. Students from rural places have also benefited from
this training. Students are using Linux, Python, PHP & MySQL, C/C++, Java and Scilab in their
curriculum. Several colleges are going for Lab Migration, which is switching from Mat lab
(proprietary) to Scilab. Academia is using Latex the de facto standard for technical writing.
School children can learn Basic Computer skills in English, Hindi or their Mother tongue. We
have dedicated colleges acting as RESOURCE centers in all states of India.

2. IIRS (Indian Institute of Remote Sensing) Outreach Programme
About: -

With the advent of Information and Communication Technology and improved broadband
internet connectivity has enhanced the scope of learning any time anywhere, going beyond the
traditional classroom approach. To support distance learning, Indian Space Research
Organisation, Government of India has launched dedicated communication satellite called
EDUSAT in 2004.

The satellite is widely used for variety of applications like Tele-education, Tele-medicine,
Village Resource Centres, mobile satellite services, disaster management support and television
broadcasting educating farmers for agriculture and other purposes. One of the prime applications
of EDUSAT satellite is tele-education at various levels (i.e. school level/UG /PG level) by
different ministries / autonomous organizations / departments/institutions/universities in India
effectively utilized the EDUSAT for Tele-education.

The initial focus of IIRS was to use EDUSAT/INSAT 4CR satellite for distance learning but
extended the scope to use internet so that access to large number of institutions/universities
/individuals with little cost the User. Today this programme is linking more professional and user
departments and ministries in the country to develop their skills in geospatial technologies and its
applications.

The IIRS outreach programme is being conducted through following two major modes:

 Live and Interactive classroom sessions (also known as EDUSAT) and

 E-learning based online courses.

The live and interactive mode of distance learning is through Internet and indigenous developed
e-class platform (https://eclass.iirs.gov.in). IIRS has setup a state-of-art studio facility and
control room to broadcast live and interactive classroom sessions and practical demonstrations
through its Distance Learning Center. The high definition video quality can be broadcast to its
user for better quality transmission.
Further to enhance the outreach of geo-spatial science and technology, IIRS has developed e-
learning contents and Learning Management Systems (LMS) for different certificate courses in
Remote Sensing and geo-spatial technology (http://elearning.iirs.gov.in). The e-learning courses
are self-paced and learner centric courses.

The syllabus of the courses is as per latest developments and trends in geo-spatial science and
technologies with specific focus on Indian case studies for geo-spatial applications. The learning
is made available through interactive 2D and 3D animations, audio, video for practical
demonstrations, software operations with free data applications. The learning methods are
implemented to make it more interactive and learner centric application with practical examples
of real world problems.

Objectives :-

The objectives of the IIRS Outreach Programme are aligned with promoting the effective
utilization of remote sensing technology for societal benefit, fostering research and innovation,
and building the capacity of stakeholders to harness the potential of remote sensing in various
applications.

This includes imparting practical knowledge and hands-on training on various aspects such as
satellite data acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation.

This involves providing training, workshops, and educational resources to professionals,

researchers, students, and government officials to develop their skills and understanding in
utilizing remote sensing data and technologies.

Outcomes:-

 Number of Courses: The IIRS Outreach Programme conducted a series of courses covering
various aspects of remote sensing and geospatial technology. These courses ranged from
introductory workshops to advanced training sessions, catering to participants with different
levels of expertise. Anand-ICE itself has covered more than 60 courses.

 Total Participants: Across all the courses offered by the IIRS Outreach Programme, a significant
number of participants attended, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and the
expansion of skills in the field. Through Anand-ICE the total count of 640 participants reflects
the widespread interest and engagement with remote sensing and geospatial technology within
the community.

 Enhanced Skills and Knowledge: Participants benefited from the diverse range of topics covered
in the courses, gaining practical skills and theoretical insights into remote sensing applications.
These enhanced skills empower participants to apply remote sensing techniques in their
respective fields, whether in environmental monitoring, disaster management, urban planning,
agriculture, or other sectors.
