Lesson Plan (Grade 8 – Air and Water Pollution)

Objective: Students will be able to create a self – sustainable model to reduce single-use plastic consumption.
What: Self – Sustainable model: A system that can work independently, single-use plastic: Plastic products that are only meant to be used once.
How: Using the cycle of scientific thinking
Opening (7 mins): Show Students data on how consumption of plastic is adding to the pollution level in the environment. (Resource:
https://sloactive.com/plastic-pollution/)
Use pictures along with the data.
Introduction to new material (10 mins):

Today we are going to create a solution for ourselves to beat plastic pollution and to do so we are going to use a very Listen, take notes.
unique method. A method that a lot of scientists use. It is called the cycle of scientific thinking. Now what exactly is
cycle scientific thinking

(Draw the cycle on the board and explain each term)

Observation: observing things around you.
Explanation: Asking questions on the observation and then creating an explanation.
Prediction: Making predictions based on the explanation.
Guided Practice (20 mins):

Let us now use this model to create models. Listen
For the first step, we will observe some data. Read the document and note

Ask: What observations have you made? Write down a few observations on the board.
Now to step number 2. To create an explanation for our observation we need to ask questions. Discuss their observation with the

The explanation for this can be: Plastic is the most easily available and cheap resource. Most of the method to
replace plastic fail because they are either expensive or not easily available

Independent Practice (10 mins):

Now some of the groups please present what explanation have you written? Discuss their observation with the
entire class
Now with the explanation and the data, we have we been now going to create a model in our group these models
can be a combination of something already present.
By model, it means creating a structure or system for you to follow. Take 7 minutes and come up with a rough Discuss in a group and create a
system. model

Conclusion: We have now all come up with a model. We will not know whether it is sustainable until we try it out. Hence, we will go back to our first step of
observation.
This cycle will go on until our prediction and observation match each other. And that is when we will that the system works.

Plan for coach growth

At the start of the year, the coach and manager will be setting the coach’s goal. The coach will be reviewed on his/her performance half-yearly on the above-
mentioned rubric. The coach will move to the next level if he/she has an average rating of 3. Apart from this, there will be monthly meets and reviewal to
understand how the coach is doing and to understand what all is working and what more can be done.
