Question no 2 solution

Identification of signals to get Amplitude Shifted Keying (ASK), and Phase Shifted Keying (PSK).
The PSK can be easily performed by keeping either of the signals, as zero.

Fig 3. PSK by keeping data 2 = 0 and Data 1 square wave

Similarly, ASK can be easily achieved by having Data 2 as zero, and varying the magnitude of
DATA 1 for eg. Sine signa as shown belowl

Question 3 Execute the two examples for chapter 1 on Optiperformer (You will find them
in“...\Optiwave Software\OptiPerformer 8\book\Ch1”). Click away and get used to the
interface. You can also find the software documentation in the path “...\Optiwave
Software\OptiPerformer 8\documentation”. Provide two differences between the spectrum
for NRZ and RZ wave- forms after executing the file ”Ch1 - Optical NRZ RZ formats”.

Differences :
1. In NRZ format the bandwidth associated with the bit stream is smaller than that of the RZ
format.
2. Maximum amplitude is relatively higher in NRZ as compared to RZ bit streams.
3. Sidelobes in NRZ format are prominent as compared to RZ.
