Introduction to Technopreneurship

Learning outcomes:
1. Define Technopreneurship
2. Different example of technopreneurship
3. Importance of technoprenurship
Introduction to Technopreneurship

The CHED is mandated to advance learning and

research, on top of its primary goal to provide quality
and accessible higher education.

One initiative is the integration of technopreneurship in

all engineering programs, in the form of a mandated
General Education course in engineering, entitled
“Technopreneurship 101” which will be implemented
starting AY 2018-2019.
The academe is a good start to spur (induce) entrepreneurial
mindset among students to spur innovations that can be globally
scalable while answering local needs.

Technopreneurship aims to expose undergraduate engineering

students to the entrepreneurial mindset and the fundamental of
entrepreneurship.
What is technopreneurship?
Technopreneurship = Technology + Entrepreneurship

• Technology - the science of the application of knowledge to

practical purposes (e.g. machinery and equipment). Moreover,
technology is the application of knowledge to make life more
comfortable, environment conducive and work space inspiring.

• Entrepreneurships - is the process of developing, organizing,

and running a new business to generate profit while taking on
financial risk. It is a way of consistently converting good ideas
through a holistic approach and leadership skills for the purpose
of wealth creation
Technopreneurship is the merging of knowledge in
technology with entrepreneur skills.
It requires not only technical knowledge but also a thorough
understanding of creativity, innovation process, marketing,
finance, and strategic thinking.
“Technopreneurship comprises of identifying modern
technologies and even creation of technological
opportunities by the presentation of commercial products
and services”.
-Blanco, 2007

Technopreneurship is a combination of technological

advancement and technopreneurial skills
It is suitable for a person who is intelligent, innovative, tech-
saving, and passionate in the calculation of risk.

It gets to the level of success through teamwork.

A Person who always find out
opportunities and convert it
into reality in the form of A taxi company
products and services to
maximize the profit and
develop their business.

technological solutions to change
the way of doing something in

Similarities of Technopreneurs and Entrepreneurs:

1. They know the risk/s and has the courage to take the
risk/s.
2. Independent and self-confident, and know where to get
help
3. Likes challenge/s
4. Hardworking and willing to stick with a project.
5. Not easily discourage

Assignment
• Give an example or technopreneurial business.
• Logo
• Who are the owner/founder of the company
• Services/Product they offer
• How did the business help or give solution to the
current problem (Importance)
Importance of Technopreneurship

1. Create more employment

2. Use of local resources

3. Business Diversification and Decentralization

4. Technological Advancement

5. Capital Formation/Economic Development

6. Promotion of Entrepreneurial activities (Start-up)

How to become a successful
Technopreneur?

It is not actually associated with exploring new ideas but it is about taking
the risk to figure out something new.

Steps on how to become a successful technopreneur:

Step1: Build a Team

- “no man is an island” or everyone relies on others
- Technopreneurial business is not a one-man show.
- It requires support to turn ideas into reality.
Step 2: Boost Problem-solving Skills
- Ought to expect troubles at every turn
- Risk in starting/building a business

Step 3: Decision Making

-Pick the best idea or strategy
- Chose the most economical, cost
efficient, and commercially viable.
Step 4: Implementation, Hardwork, and
Determination

If you failed, go back to step 3

MAIN FOCUS OF TECHNOPRENEURSHIP

1. Hi-tech ventures in information and communication technology

- Such as internet, life services, electronics, and biotech

2. Service from where the main focus is technology

3. Design of hi-tech products such as computer hardware and devices

4. Use of technology in the delivery of normal business activities.

Importance of Technopreneurship to engineering students
and future engineers

1. To encourage the to build a technopreneurial business not

only a construction firm.

2. To become technopreneur not only become the manager

of a construction firm.
In conclusion…..
• Technopreneurship is not a product but a procedure to come up
with human innovations with the help of technology.

• Technopreneurship is all about making improvements and bring

ample benefits in reducing the cost of other businesses.

• Technopreneurship makes easy to develop, distribute, store, process,

and even access information at a cheap cost. For example,
physical space in an office or workplace covered with thousands of
papers, now it is simple to store it as technological elements.
