1. Introduction
This guide is intended to provide information specific to QDOBA Restaurant
locations on the process of replacing the current POS terminal hardware
with a new terminal. This covers the hardware setup, connection, and
software configuration needed to complete this process.

This guide covers the replacement of the PARTech ES7200 POS terminal
with the PARTech PHASE POS terminal.

IMPORTANT
Each section outlined in this document must be done in
the order that they are presented for a successful
replacement process.

2. REMOTE TECH – Store Systems Verification Checks


This section to be completed by the Remote Technician

2.1 Systems Checks

1. Contact the remote technician helping with the terminal swap


2. Confirm that the remote technician has completed the Store Systems
verification checks before proceeding to the next steps

3. REMOTE TECH – Aloha CFC Verification


This section to be completed by the Remote Technician

3.1 Aloha CFC Verification

1. Confirm that the remote technician has completed the Aloha Configuration
Center verification checks before proceeding to the next steps

It is now OK to TURN OFF the existing POS terminal and start the
terminal swap process shown in SECTION 5 and SECTION 6, but do not
yet start SECTION 7.

4. REMOTE TECH – Pre-Install Config on the BOH Server


This section to be completed by the Remote Technician

4.1 Pre-Install Configuration

1. If not already provided, confirm the remote technician has the MAC
Address for the replacement POS Terminal
a. See Section 10.4 to find the new terminal’s MAC Address

It is now OK to TURN ON the PAR PHASE terminal in SECTION 7.

5. ONSITE TECH – Removing the Existing POS Terminal


This section to be completed by the Onsite Technician

5.1 Removing the PAR ES7200

1. Power off the terminal by holding the power button down for 5 seconds
2. Remove the three cable covers from the PAR terminal

(two of the three covers shown above)

3. Note which cables connect to what ports on the terminal


a. Below is an example of standard cable connections

1 USB Ports EMV Device, Barcode reader


3 Network Port RJ45 network cable
4 COM1 Port Tortilla Printer RJ45 cable
4 COM2 Port Coin Changer RJ45 cable (optional)
5 COM5 Port Customer Display cable (not re-used)
6 USB Port (Powered) Epson Receipt Printer cable
7 CD1 Port Cash Drawer cable
8 Power Port Power cable (not re-used)

4. Disconnect all cables and remove them from the terminal cable routing

It is highly recommended that cables are labeled with which port


they were connected to on the PAR 7200 as to know where to
connect them on the PAR Phase terminal

5. Once all cables are disconnected and no longer attached to the POS
terminal, remove the terminal
6. Remove the previously used power cable

6. ONSITE TECH – Installing the New POS Terminal


This section to be completed by the Onsite Technician

6.1 Installing the New PAR Phase

1. Clean any debris off the counter or cash drawer surface where the new POS
terminal will be positioned
2. Place the new PAR Phase terminal in the same location

If the Mag Stripe Reader (MSR) and Biometric reader are not
attached already, see Section 10.2 and Section 10.3 for installation

3. On the back cover, press the side release tabs and flip down

4. The connection well is located at the top of the exposed area with a guide
to the connection ports located on the cover itself below

5. Install the new power brick and power cable under the counter up through
an access hole to reach the POS terminal

6. Remove any plastic covers over the customer display and screen
7. Use the following connection guide to determine where to connect each
cable to the new PAR Phase

1. Power Port : Power Cable


2. 24v Powered USB : Epson TM-T88 Connection
3. 3.0 USB Ports : USB Connected Devices (EMV, Barcode)
4. 12v Powered USB : Not Used
5. COM Port 1 : Tortilla Printer
6. COM Port 2 : Coin Changer (optional)
7. Cash Drawer 1 : Cash Drawer Port
8. Cash Drawer 2 : Not used
9. Network Port : RJ45 network cable

8. Note that all cables should be routed through the cable routing hole at the
bottom of the terminal

9. Make sure none of the cables stick out beyond the sides of the terminal
a. Failure to do so will mean the cover will not fit back on
10.Flip the cover back up to cover the Connection Well to make sure that the
cover fits properly

7. ONSITE TECH – Configure the PAR Phase Terminal


This section to be completed by the Onsite Technician

7.1 Powering on the POS Terminal and Error Troubleshooting

The POS terminal should come pre-staged. If the terminal has not
been imaged, image the POS terminal as instructed in Section 10.6

1. Turn on the POS terminal by pressing the power button on the right side

2. The POS terminal should boot into Windows and start the auto
configuration process which will including multiple reboots

TROUBLESHOOTING:

If the auto configuration fails to one of the errors below, follow the included
steps to resolve the problem. If no errors are shown, continue to Section 7.2

3. Possible Error: Unable to connect to the back office server…

[ERROR] Unable to connect to the back office server or the GhostCast


[ERROR] Server application is not running on the back office server
[ERROR] Please check the network connection and application status

a. If shown this error, confirm the network cable is securely connected


and the link lights are on
b. Have the Remote Tech confirm the Dual DHCP Server service has
been started and is running per Section 4.3
c. Reboot the POS terminal once network connectivity has been
confirmed

4. Possible Error: Variables.ini file does not contain …

[ERROR] Variables.ini file does not contain this terminal’s MAC Address
[ERROR] This Terminal’s MAC Address = 00:00:00:00:00:00

a. Confirm the MAC Address shown is the one the Remote Tech used in
Section 4.2 when editing the Variables.ini file
b. Remote tech should confirm the Variables.ini file has the MAC
Address correctly entered as outlined in Section 4.2
c. Reboot the POS Terminal after confirming the MAC Address is correct
5. Once all issues have been resolved, continue to the next section

7.2 RAL Terminal Selection

1. After the auto-configuration process has been completed, the terminal will
load to the Remote Auto Loader (RAL) screen

2. Press the POS displayed option


3. Choose the appropriate terminal ID for the installed POS terminal

If there is only one POS terminal connected to the system, RAL may
not give you a choice and select the terminal automatically

4. RAL will start the terminal configuration process once a terminal has been
selected; the configuration process will be shown at the bottom

5. After RAL has configured the terminal and installed any required
applications, the POS will load to the QDOBA floating logo

6. Terminal installation is now complete

TROUBLESHOOTING:

If RAL automatically selects the wrong POS Terminal ID or a Kitchen terminal


type, follow the steps in Section 10.7 to correct the issue

8. REMOTE TECH – Post-Install Configuration

8.1 Post-Install Configuration

1. Allow the Remote Technician to complete the Post-Install configuration


process before continuing to the next section.

9. BOTH TECHS – Installation Verification


This section to be completed by the Remote and Onsite Technicians

9.1 POS Screen Errors

1. From the floating QDOBA logo screen, tap the screen to show any errors

2. If any errors pertaining to peripherals connected to the terminal,


troubleshoot any connections and/or make sure the peripheral(s) are
powered on

3. To refresh the screen:


a. Tap the green window
b. Press the Exit button at the top of the screen
c. From the Floating QDOBA logo screen, tap the screen again
4. Once there are no unexpected errors showing, the process is complete

9.2 Testing Functionality

1. From the floating QDOBA logo, tap the screen


2. Log in the cashier user specific to each POS ID and press OK
a. Terminal WS1 = 101
b. Terminal WS2 = 102
c. Terminal WS3 = 103
3. Press Clock In
4. If installing in the early morning before the restaurant is open:
a. Press the Functions Menu near the bottom-middle of the screen

b. Press Assign Drawer near the middle-top of the screen

5. Go to the MAIN MENU by pressing the Main Menu button (top-middle)


6. Press the Cookie button near the bottom of the screen

7. Press the TO GO button under the Cookie button


8. Press the Functions Menu button near the bottom-middle of the screen
9. Press the Print Receipt button
a. Expected behavior: a receipt should print on the receipt printer
b. If a receipt does not print, confirm the printer is on and securely
connected
10.(Onsite Tech) Look at the EMV device and confirm a QDOBA logo is shown
11.(Remote Tech) Press the Tender Menu button near the bottom of the
screen
12.Press the large Credit Card button

13.Press OK to confirm the amount


a. Expected behavior: the EMV device reader should display a message
with the check total and to “Insert, Swipe, or Tap Card”
b. If no message is shown, disconnect the EMV device from the POS
terminal and reconnect; allow it to reboot and try again
14.Press Close at the top-left corner
15.Press Close at the top-left corner again
16.Tests are now complete; inform the manager (if available) to void the
cookie and close the check to 0.00

10.2 Installing and Removing the Magnetic Swipe Reader (MSR)

1. Power off the POS terminal


2. Remove the rubber receptacle cover over the connection point and the
USB-C slot by pulling them out and away

3. Insert the MSR into the open slots and push inward to set

10.3 Installing and Removing the Biometric Reader (optional)

1. Power off the POS terminal


2. Remove the rubber receptacle covers over the connection point and USB-C
slot by pulling them out and away

3. Insert the biometric reader into the open slots and push inward to set

10.4 Finding the MAC Address on the PAR Phase Terminal

1. Confirm the POS terminal is powered off


2. Turn on the POS terminal by pressing the power button on the right side

3. Continually tap the PAR logo till a beep noise is heard

4. Press the “Setup” option at the bottom of the screen when shown
5. Second line in the bottom gray section of the screen is the MAC Address

10.5 Fileserver Recovery (Pulling from Redundancy)

1. Remote Technician use only

10.6 Applying the Image

1. Confirm the POS terminal is powered off


2. Connect a USB Keyboard to an available USB port
3. Connect the PAR Phase USB Flash Drive to an available USB port

4. Turn on the POS terminal by pressing the power button on the right side

5. Continually tap the PAR logo till a beep noise is heard

6. Press the “Boot” option at the bottom of the screen when shown

7. Select the USB Flash Drive boot option (usually option 3)


8. Allow the Windows PE operating system to load and wait for the WARNING
message to be displayed
9. Press any key on the keyboard to continue with the imaging process
10.The Image will be applied to the local drive using GHOST

11.The terminal will reboot automatically once complete


12.Remove the USB Flash Drive once the terminal reboots
