Task 1: The diagram below shows the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago

and how it looks now.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and
make comparisons where relevant.

A variety of facility modifications has been experienced in the Central Library

throughout the 20-year period, as seen in the given two maps.
Overall, the most significant change is that two big couple tables and chairs which
were in the center, have disappeared to give way for a large lobby straightened to
the entrance.
Initially, once entering the library, to the bottom right-hand corner, a newly café is
erected instead of the primary enquire desk, while a room on the opposite side,
which used to read newspapers and magazines has been converted into a
computer one. Furthermore, there have been newly added reference books, a
convenient information desk, and modern self-service machines on two sides of
the middle. Finally, the area for children has been moved from the top right-hand
corner, which is now replaced by a lecture room, to the left one, providing fiction
books, storytelling events, and two comfortable sofas.

The Central Library has undergone a number of facilities upgrades during the
last 20 years, as illustrated by the two maps below.
The most noticeable modification is the removal of two huge couple of tables
and chairs from the center to make space for a wide lobby that is oriented to
the entrance.
Upon entering the library, a newly constructed café replaces the principal
information desk, while a space on the other side that was formerly used to
read newspapers and magazines has been transformed into a computer room.
There are also new reference volumes, an accessible information desk, and
contemporary self-service devices on both sides of the center. Finally, the
children's section has been relocated from the upper right-hand corner, which
has been replaced by a lecture room, to the lower left corner, which now houses
fiction books, storytelling events, and two comfy sofas.

Task 2: An increasing number of people are choosing cosmetic surgery / plastic

surgery. Why do people have operations to change the way they look? Do you
think this is a positive or negative development?

Cosmetic surgery is increasingly becoming a notable worry of modern culture, as

numerous individuals especially women opt to go under the knife. This paper,
therefore, will highlight both compelling causes, merits, and demerits of this
phenomenon.
There is no denying that a variety of citizens have plastic surgery for several
cogent reasons. One of the most significant ones is enhancing one’s appearance
and boosting one's self-esteem. To illustrate, birth defects such as cleft lip or
palate, physical injuries particularly facial scarring due to accidents, or perfection
seekers, may be conducted via surgery, leading to confidence and comfort in their
own looks, avoiding social pressure, and lifting the life quality. The second major
cause is to meet the requirements of certain careers. It is employable for not only
models, actors, or performers to conform to specific beauty standards to succeed
and prolong their professional, but also for newbies who want to step into this
highly competitive industry.
Despite of considerable benefits mentioned above as reasons, two huge
drawbacks of this tendency: potential health risks and perpetuating unrealistic
beauty standards. First and foremost, being susceptible to postoperative
complications and being addicted must be taken into account. Excessive bleeding,
hematoma, infection, or abnormal scarring after procedures can be severe and
may require additional medical treatments which are costly and time-consuming,
as evidenced by many unreliable cosmetic establishments resulting in deadly
consequences due to unqualified anesthesia. Furthermore, individuals who
undergo nose jobs, then develop a new obsession with breast augmentation,
liposuction, face slimming, and so on regardless of whether it is necessary or not,
facing a financial strain. Second of all, plastic surgery can perpetuate unrealistic
beauty standards, reinforcing stereotypes and contributing to discrimination
against those who do not fit the perceived beauty criteria which is common in
Korea, the plastic surgery capital of the world.
To summarize, these discussed causes as well as both upsides and downsides are
genuine; nevertheless, I believe that the negative ones are greater and heavier
than the positives.
Cosmetic surgery is becoming a major concern in modern culture, since
numerous individuals, particularly women, want to have the procedure. As a
result, this study will emphasize both compelling reasons, benefits, and
drawbacks of this phenomenon.
There is no disputing that a wide range of folks get plastic surgery for a number
of compelling reasons. One of the most important ones is improving one's looks
and self-esteem. For example, congenital deformities such as cleft lip or palate,
physical traumas such as facial scars from accidents, or perfection seekers may
be treated surgically, leading to confidence and comfort in their own
appearance, avoiding societal pressure, and improving life quality. The second
significant explanation is to fulfill the criteria of certain jobs. It is useful not only
for models, actors, and performers to comply to strict beauty standards in order
to thrive and prolong their careers, but also for newcomers who seek to break
into this extremely competitive sector.
Despite the numerous benefits described above, there are two major negatives
to this tendency: significant health concerns and the perpetuation of artificial
beauty standards. First and foremost, being prone to postoperative problems
and being addicted must be considered. Excessive bleeding, hematoma,
infection, or aberrant scarring following operations can be serious and
necessitate extra medical treatments that are costly and time-consuming, as
proven by numerous untrustworthy cosmetic institutions that resulted in fatal
outcomes due to unskilled anesthesia. Furthermore, those who have nose jobs
have a new preoccupation with breast augmentation, liposuction, face
slimming, and so on, whether it is required or not, putting them in financial
jeopardy. Second, plastic surgery can promote false beauty standards by
reinforcing stereotypes and leading to discrimination against individuals who do
not meet the perceived beauty requirements, as is typical in Korea, the world's
plastic surgery capital.
To summarize, I feel that the discussed reasons, as well as the pros and
negatives, are true; nonetheless, I believe that the negatives are stronger and
heavier than the positives.
