Dr. Ghali College, Gadhinglaj Page 9

Shivaji University, Kolhapur Organizational Behaviour

2.7 MODELS OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR:

1. Autocratic model:-
In the organization following autocratic model the manager has the authority to order the
employees to perform a specific task. Management consider itself as the supreme Power
to tell what is right for the organization and those the employees must obey their
commands. This model result in excessive dependents of the employees on the
management which leads to reduce the employees moral poor decision- making ability in
the employees and high rate of turnover.

2. Custodial model:-
The focus of this model is on the satisfaction security and welfare needs of the
employees does leading the employees to depend on the organization rather than the
manager's. The employees gate frequent economic reverse and recognition which make
them happy but it does not lead to high motivation.

3. Supportive model:-
This model focuses on getting work done through better leadership than power and
money. It believe in creating and environment which helps both the employees and
theorganization to grow mutually. It provides the employees a chance to take
responsibility and contribute towards the goals of the organization and developed
themselves. It differs from the real approach as it focuses on employee‟s benefit. The
psychological result is that the employee develops a sense of belongingness towards
organization as he participate in its growth and development.

4. Collegial model:-
Collegial refers to a group of people with a common goal. In this approach the
management works to develop better team and acts as a mutual contributor not as a boss.

discipline as he owns the responsibility of the work. These condition makes the
employees feel he is worth in the organization. The employee is those inspired towards
performing better.

Dr. Ghali College, Gadhinglaj Page 10

2.8 MODELS OF INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOUR:

1. S-R Model:-
According to S-R behavioural theory, there is always a reason for any human action or
behaviour, S-R model, i.e., Stimulus-Response Model believes that an individual response
because some stimulus influences his behaviour. Human behaviour is influenced by either
internal factors or external factors. Stimulus can either be in the form of internal motivation or it
can be in the form of external factors such as weather, atmosphere, information available, etc.

2. S-O-R Model:-
S-O-R model is stimulus-Organisum-Response model where the organisum is a
mediator of stimulus and response. According to this behavioural theory, the stimulus is
developed by the human himself ehich further results in certain response or behaviour. In this
model, ' O‟ stands for organism and it is assume the to be inactive and stationary in S-R model.
Unlike S-R model, S-O-R model gives importance to the role played by the individual. The „O‟
in this model is active and moving which performs the maintenance and regulatory function
between stimulus and response. „O‟ as a mediating function observes its environment, adopts the
required environmental factors, avoids non- required ones and then monitors its own actions.

3. S-O-B-C Model:-
S-O-B-C model is considered as modification and extension of S-O-R model. It is more
comprehensive and complex model of human behaviour. S-O-B-C is situation – organism – behaviour –
consequence model where „S‟ is the situation including physical environment as well as socio – cultural
environment and all aspects of environment – immediate – stimulus. „O‟ is the individual who is not only
physiological, but also psychological by nature.‟ B‟ is concerned with both overt and covert Behavioural
pattern of the organism and „C‟ stand for both over and covered consequences of the human behaviour.

Dr. Ghali College, Gadhinglaj Page 11

Shivaji University, Kolhapur Organizational Behaviour

2.9 LEVELS OF ORGANIZATIONAL BRHAVIOUR:

1. individual level:-
individual is the key part of any behaviour situation. Different individuals constitute
and organization irrespective of weather working individually or as part of a team,
due to the expectations of management or because of the pressure exerted from
external factors, the main focus in organizational behavior is on an individual.
When one conducts a study of individuals behaviour in the organization it is called as
micro organizational behaviour.

2. Group level:-
Individuals connect with others at their own personal levels. However the way
they behave is also impacted by the group they are part of. It has been observed in
various studies that individuals show distinct behavior patterns in groups and
individually. Various factor such as group objectives, norms leadership co- operation,
unity, etc., Impact group behaviour. To boost the group moral and effectiveness by
minimizing the conflicts among the members, it is important to study group
dynamics. The studies called meso organization behaviour.

3. Organization level:-
Various individuals and groups which are dependent on each other and carry out there
function within the organizational framework construct the organization. This
individuals and groups not only build the organization culture but also help in
development of organization. They may oppose some changes in the already existing
setup and at the same time they may also strive for change when they feel so. When
