ICT CHAPTER 6 SUMMARY

Chapter six of ICT discusses its uses and applications in the real world. We’ll also refer back to
previous applications we’ve learnt about in the past chapters.

6.1.1 Communication applications:

Flyers, posters, brochures and newspapers. They can easily be produced, mostly produced on word
processor. Usually, the poster or flyer will have downloaded photos or photos taken for them.

Open a word processor or presentation application, create frames or boxes, take pictures or upload a
downloaded photo, save the photos to a file, import or copy and paste it to the document. Edit the
photos and import from a file or type any text required.

Brochures and flyers are used to advertise a company or club, with various methods available. A
professional company can produce these documents on glossy paper and access specialist software.
These can be sent to every household in each area, ensuring a specific target group receives the
company's advertising. Posters, on the other hand, are larger sheets of paper displayed on buildings,
noticeboards, or advertising hoardings. They are eye-catching and difficult to miss but have a limited
life due to the cost of display and weather conditions. Newsletters, produced by companies or clubs,
contain local information read by company employees or club members, such as marriages,
fundraising and success by employees, advertising by other companies and news events.

6.1.2: WEBSITES:

A more affordable option to printing flyers and posters is advertising on websites. Companies have
the option of building their own websites in-house or hiring a professional web design firm.
Employing web designers or a specialized business with website design experience is necessary for
this technique. To ensure website security, you must also invest in hardware, software, and
programmers. Before choosing the most effective advertising strategy, businesses must weigh the
benefits and drawbacks.

Benefits like links, hotspots, buttons, sound, video, animation, and hit counters are available on
websites with global systems. A large audience can easily view it and update it. It may increase
customer mistrust, requires a computer and an internet connection, is less portable, and it poses
potential pharming risks. Additionally, it can be expensive and difficult to reach the right audience
when maintaining the website.

6.1.3 MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION:

Multimedia presentations, which incorporate animation, video, sound, and music, are more engaging
and flexible than standard presentations. The content of these presentations can be seen by the
audience thanks to software tools and a multimedia projector. Benefits include flexible fact display
options, interactive hyperlinks, sound and animation effects, and transition effects. The requirement
for expensive equipment, the possibility of equipment failure, and internet access are drawbacks,
though.

Presentations made on paper have benefits like Braille printing, accessibility for people with
disabilities, and availability for reading at any time. However, they come with distribution costs, a
lack of special effects, and printing expenses like ink and paper. Paper-based presentations give
recipients a permanent reference despite these disadvantages.
