Concept of Wildlife Conservation and its Importance for
Fauna Protection in Different Habitats

DR RAJPAR MUHAMMAD NAWAZ

SBBU SHERINGAL
Pakistan is bestowed with magnificent and fascinating landscape
from aquatic resources to higher elevation mountain ridges.

This diversity of habitats had occupied with a wide array of vegetation

structure and composition which are rich in food resources and had
attracted thousands of fauna species to fulfill their needs for
propagation and survival.

Wildlife management is the art and science through which various fauna and
their habitat have been manipulated and managed on a sustainable basis.

Wildlife management is interdisciplinary that deals with protecting FAUNA species

and their habitats

It emphasizes the both applied and basic research about wildlife ecology,
management, education and extension

Ecological principles such as carrying capacity of the habitat, preservation and

conservation of habitat, reforestation, predator control, re-introduction of extinct
species, capture and relocation of displaced fauna species in their native habitat
THREATS TO WILDLIFE
COMPONENTS

Trends in population of different wildlife species

The interaction of wildlife species with their habitat

and climatic conditions

The impact of human activities, climate change,

surrounding landscape, and environmental factors
WHY WILDLIFE MNAGEMENT IS SO IMPORTANT

The wildlife management helps to maintain balance of nature

It can increase foreign exchange if linked with

eco-tourism

To preserve the genetic diversity of fauna in order to increase the

populations of heterogeneous wildlife species
To ensure the sustainable development- using
the finite resources in a judicious manner

Create, enhance or improve sufficient habitat

to support suitable populations of desired
wildlife species

Manage habitat and populations to protect

flora and fauna listed as threatened or
endangered
TYPES OF WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

Manipulative wildlife Management: It deals with

changing the number of individuals of wildlife
species through direct means, altering food
supply, habitat alteration, reducing predator
density and prevalence of diseases.

Custodial Wildlife Management: it is preventive or protective activities in order to minimize the external
influences on the density and diversity of species and their habitats. For example; establishment of protected
areas
